There is no single official 2027 Color of the Year: paint brands make their own selections. As of October 7, 2026, the announced shades include Sherwin-Williams Celery, PPG Country Soil, Behr Grounded, Glidden Artifact, and California Paints Quiet Peace. Each offers a different starting point, from herbal greens to warm earth tones and moody blue. The right one for your home depends on the room, the surfaces you want to paint, and how the color looks in your light.

How to choose a shade for your room
For a light, herbal green: Celery
Sherwin-Williams describes Celery as balancing a pastel-like airiness with an herbal, grounded character. It may suit a room where you want green without the depth of an olive shade. For a softer scheme, consider the brand’s White Flour or Woven Wicker; for more contrast, its coordinated colors include Artichoke, Potentially Purple, Georgian Bay, Kirsch Red, and Plum Brown. The full HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams palette also includes Cosmos, Cocoon, and Minwax Pickled Oak stain. See Sherwin-Williams’ Celery page and the HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams palette announcement.
For a warm, muted neutral: Country Soil
Country Soil combines beige, taupe, and gray, so it offers more warmth and depth than a plain off-white while remaining a neutral. PPG positions it within its Foundations theme, with the palettes Solid Ground, Quiet Zone, and Life Shared. The brand suggests combining it with organic materials, soft pastels, or vintage-sports-inspired colors. Its stated availability is regional: selected PPG architectural brands in EMEA, Latin America, and Asia. Read PPG’s Country Soil announcement before assuming it is sold in your market.

For an earthier, deeper green: Grounded
Behr’s Grounded shifts between olive and moss, with brown undertones that give it an earthy cast. The company suggests it for living rooms and kitchens as well as exterior projects. A deeper green can make a strong statement across many surfaces; if you are unsure, start with a smaller area or movable pieces before committing to a whole room. Behr describes the shade and its palette in its 2027 announcement.
For a layered palette: Artifact
Glidden’s Artifact PPG10-16 is presented with nine coordinating trend colors for mixing and layering. Because the announcement does not give a detailed text description of Artifact’s hue, view its official color presentation and request a swatch rather than relying on a more specific color label. Choose the role the color should play before deciding how much paint to buy. An accent wall, a full room, cabinets, trim, furniture, and textiles all create different levels of commitment and visual impact.
- Start with the room’s purpose. Think about whether you want the space to feel restful, lively, warm, or more dramatic, and account for how often it is used.
- Choose one dominant color and a few companions. PPG’s 60-30-10 approach is one option: use a dominant color across roughly 60% of the space, a secondary shade through about 30% such as furniture or textiles, and an accent for the remaining 10%. It is a design suggestion, not a rule.
- Scale the commitment to the color. PPG suggests using Country Soil on an accent wall or across walls, trim, and ceiling. The HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams line makes Celery tint available in cabinet and furniture paint, as well as interior and exterior paints. A saturated or dark shade can also start on a smaller surface or in movable objects.
- Let materials do some of the coordinating. Wood, textiles, and other organic materials can soften or reinforce a palette; PPG specifically suggests organic materials with Country Soil.
Test the paint before committing
A color’s appearance depends on the room and the physical paint, not just its name or digital swatch. California Paints warns that on-screen and printed representations can vary from actual paint. Sherwin-Williams and Behr describe sample options, while Glidden offers free swatches. Availability and terms can vary, so confirm them with the brand or retailer.
Quick Recap
- Get a physical sample or swatch. Choose a format the brand currently offers for the product and location you plan to use.
- View it in the intended room. Check the sample where the color will go and in the room’s actual lighting at different times of day.
- Compare it with fixed finishes. Look at the sample alongside flooring, counters, cabinetry, trim, and fabrics that will stay in the room.
- Decide on the surface and scale. If the color feels right, choose whether it belongs on one wall, throughout the room, or on a smaller feature such as furniture or cabinets.
