Vigeland Park is the free, open-air sculpture installation inside Oslo’s larger Frogner Park. It is open 24 hours a day, year-round, and Visit Norway describes it as “the world’s largest sculpture park created by a single artist.” Follow the central route from the Bridge to the Monolith and Wheel of Life to see its best-known works by Gustav Vigeland.

What is Vigeland Park?

“Vigeland Park,” “Vigeland Sculpture Park” and the Norwegian name Vigelandsparken refer to the sculpture installation within Frogner Park in Oslo. VisitOSLO counts more than 200 works by Gustav Vigeland, made in bronze, granite and cast iron. Among them are Sinnataggen (The Angry Boy), the Monolith and the Wheel of Life.

Visit Norway calls it “the world’s largest sculpture park created by a single artist.” That description is the tourism board’s characterization; its page does not explain a formal method for ranking sculpture parks worldwide.

What should you see on a first visit?

Walk the monumental axis in sequence: the Bridge, Children’s Circle, Fountain, Monolith and Wheel of Life. This route gives a clear sense of the installation’s scale and leads past several of its defining works.

The Bridge and Sinnataggen

The Bridge is home to Sinnataggen, often called The Angry Boy. The Vigeland Museum’s FAQ confirms the sculpture’s location. The bridge also forms the start of the route through the installation.

Children’s Circle and Fountain

Continue to the Children’s Circle and Fountain. Together with the Bridge, they make up the earlier part of the monumental sequence; the museum provides dedicated interpretation of the Fountain.

The Monolith and Wheel of Life

At the far end of the axis, the Monolith is one of the installation’s central landmarks. The Wheel of Life completes the recommended walk. The Vigeland Museum offers interpretation of both monuments as well as the Bridge.

Is Vigeland Park free, and when is it open?

Yes. VisitOSLO says the outdoor park is free and open 24 hours a day throughout the year. There is no entrance checkpoint or required time slot, so visitors can explore at their own pace.

How do you get to Vigeland Park?

  • Tram: Tram 12 or 15 to the Vigelandsparken stop, according to the Vigeland Museum’s FAQ.
  • Bus: Bus 20 to the Vigelandsparken stop, also listed by the museum.
  • Metro: Visit Norway says Majorstuen station is about a 10-minute walk away.

Are the paths accessible?

Visit Norway describes the grounds as largely flat, with wide paths suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. Conditions can vary across a large outdoor park, so visitors who need specific access details may wish to check with the park or museum before setting out.

Should you visit the Vigeland Museum too?

The Vigeland Museum is a separate, ticketed indoor attraction at Nobels gate 32, distinct from the free outdoor installation. It adds interpretation of the Bridge, Monolith and Fountain, along with chronology and visitor information. Combining the outdoor walk with the museum makes sense if you want more context than the sculptures and route alone provide.

Museum hours and admission

The museum visitor information page lists Tuesday–Sunday hours of 12:00–16:00 outside summer and 10:00–17:00 in June–August; it is closed on Mondays. The page lists admission as NOK 120 for adults, NOK 100 for seniors, NOK 70 for ages 18–25, and free for ages 0–17. It also lists free admission for Oslo Pass holders. These are the figures shown on the visitor page accessed in 2026; check the museum’s current information before visiting, as hours and prices can change.

Facilities, photography and tours

The museum lists two toilets near its main entrance, a universal toilet in Hall VII and changing tables. Photography is permitted, with a request that visitors be considerate of others. The museum says it offers guided park tours during summer; check its visitor information for current dates, prices and booking details.
