No—Adobe has not announced that Animate is shutting down next month. Adobe says Animate remains available to new and existing users and that it has no plans to discontinue it. The application is in maintenance mode: Adobe plans to provide security updates and bug fixes, but not new features.
The confusion stems from a February 2026 announcement describing a discontinuation plan that Adobe later superseded. There is no current availability deadline, but users should understand what maintenance mode does—and does not—promise.
What happened to Adobe Animate?

What does maintenance mode mean?
Adobe says maintenance mode applies to individual, small-business, and enterprise customers. According to Adobe’s Animate FAQ, the application will receive security updates and bug fixes, but Adobe does not plan to add new features.
Maintenance mode is not the same as an announced shutdown. Adobe says it has no plans to discontinue Animate and will ensure users have access to their content. Adobe also says existing integrations, including Media Encoder and After Effects, will be maintained at their current support level; it does not plan new integrations.

This is Adobe’s current published policy, not a guarantee of feature development or compatibility with every future operating system, plug-in, font, or other dependency.
Can you still use Adobe Animate?
Yes. Adobe’s current FAQs say Animate remains available to new and existing users and that there is no longer a deadline for its availability. Adobe’s release-notes page lists the October 2023 release, version 24.0, as its latest/current version; that is what the release-notes page lists, not a claim about every possible later build.

What should Animate users do?
- Check Adobe’s current FAQs. Status and support policies can change, so confirm the official wording before making a business or migration decision.
- Keep project files and dependencies together. Preserve editable source files and the linked assets your projects need.
- Back up important work. Keep copies in locations you control rather than relying on a single copy.
- Test important projects and exports. Confirm that your existing workflow still produces the deliverables you need.
- Evaluate alternatives only against your workflow. If you decide to migrate, test a representative project and check file compatibility, interactive or web output needs, and continuing feature development.
Is Adobe Animate being discontinued?
Adobe’s current FAQ says, “We have no plans to discontinue Animate.” Adobe’s maintenance-mode FAQ also says there is no longer a deadline by which Animate will become unavailable. These statements reflect the FAQs last updated June 8 and June 9, 2026, respectively.

Will Adobe Animate get new features?
No new features are planned under maintenance mode. Adobe says it will continue security updates and bug fixes.

Do I need to switch to After Effects or Adobe Express?
Adobe’s older announcement mentioned After Effects and Adobe Express for portions of Animate’s capabilities, but the research does not establish either as a complete replacement or a necessary migration. Choose based on the work you need to create and test compatibility before switching.
