To print one large image across ordinary sheets, use Microsoft Paint’s Fit to page grid or, for a PDF, Adobe Acrobat’s Poster mode. In Paint, set how many pages wide and tall the image should span; in Acrobat, choose the tile scale and optional overlap or assembly guides. Check the preview, paper size, and printer settings before printing.

Method 1: Print an image across pages in Microsoft Paint
Paint’s Fit to fields let you choose the number of pages wide and tall. For example, a 2-by-2 grid spreads the image over four sheets. More pages make a larger print, but do not add detail that is missing from the source image.
- Open the image in Microsoft Paint.
- Choose File > Print > Page setup.
- Set the paper size to match the paper loaded in your printer. Choose portrait or landscape orientation to suit the image, and review the margins.
- Under Scaling, select Fit to and enter the number of pages wide and tall. For a four-sheet layout, enter 2 by 2.
- Confirm the page setup, then choose File > Print or press Ctrl+P.
- Select the physical printer and inspect its settings and preview before printing.
Paint’s interface can differ between Windows versions. This method does not provide Acrobat’s dedicated overlap, cut marks, or labels, so you may need to align and trim the sheets manually.
Method 2: Use Adobe Acrobat’s Poster mode
Acrobat’s Poster mode divides a PDF page across multiple sheets and offers controls for scale and assembly. If you have a JPG or PNG, first create a single-page PDF using a trusted local workflow, then open it in Acrobat.

- Open the PDF in Acrobat and choose Menu > Print on Windows. Menu wording may vary by version.
- Choose the physical printer and confirm its paper settings.
- Under Page Sizing & Handling, select Poster.
- Review the preview and tile count.
- Set Tile Scale to control the output size. Add Overlap if it will help you align adjoining sheets.
- Enable Cut marks or Labels if available. Use Tile only large pages when a PDF has mixed-size pages and only oversized pages should be tiled.
- Print after checking the preview, paper size, and printer settings.
Adobe’s poster and banner printing guide describes these controls. Its documentation says Acrobat Pro calculates the sheets required and provides options to fine-tune output for assembly; practical guides also describe Poster controls in Acrobat Reader. Availability and labels depend on the application and version.
Do not select Multiple pages per sheet when your goal is to enlarge one image. That setting shrinks several pages onto one sheet instead of tiling one page across sheets.
Method 3: Check your printer driver for poster printing
Some printer drivers have their own poster or multi-page enlargement feature. Look for terms such as Poster, Poster Printing, Multi-Page, or Tiled printing in the printer’s layout or page-layout settings.
- Open the image and select Print.
- Choose your printer and open Printer properties, Preferences, or a similarly named settings panel.
- Look in the layout or finishing settings for a poster or multi-page option.
- Match the paper size and orientation to the loaded paper.
- Review any guides and the preview, then print a test before the full job.
These controls are not a universal Windows feature. For example, Epson’s Windows driver documentation lists 2×1, 2×2, 3×3, and 4×4 layouts with guides, and says its cited multi-page feature is unavailable with two-sided printing. Other models and drivers may differ.

Check the paper, scaling, and preview

For a PDF already laid out as one tile per page, print at Actual size or 100% when available. Microsoft explains print scaling, including the difference between Actual size and Fit. Check that a fit, shrink, or second poster option is not overriding your intended size.
Assemble the printed sheets
- Lay out all the sheets before joining them.
- Arrange them by labels, if present, or match recognizable features in the image.
- Align the printed image rather than relying on the outer paper edges.
- Trim edges where needed, using guides if available.
- Join the aligned sheets with tape if desired.
Troubleshooting
Paint prints the image on one page instead of several
Open File > Print > Page setup and confirm that Fit to is selected and the grid is larger than 1 by 1. Also check that printer preferences are not applying a conflicting scaling mode.
The poster is unexpectedly small or large
Check Paint’s page grid or Acrobat’s Tile Scale, confirm the printer uses the intended paper size, and avoid stacking a second fit or poster setting on top of the application’s tiling.

The assembled image looks pixelated
The source file may not have enough resolution for the enlarged dimensions. Tiling increases physical size; it does not add image detail.
Pages do not line up
Check the page order, orientation, margins, and printer scaling. Acrobat offers overlap and assembly guides when available; Paint may require manual alignment and trimming.
Can I print the pages double-sided?
Duplex behavior depends on the printer and driver. Epson documents its cited multi-page feature as unavailable with two-sided printing, so check your model’s settings before relying on duplex.

Will printing an image across more pages make it sharper?
