Yes—Adobe Firefly can now use your own images to create a Custom Model that generates new imagery reflecting your illustration style, photographic look, character, subject, or brand aesthetic. But this is not a downloadable AI trained from scratch. Adobe fine-tunes a hosted Firefly model, and the feature is currently a public beta requiring 10–30 suitable images.
For artists already working in Adobe’s ecosystem, Custom Models could make repeated variations faster and more consistent. It is less suitable if you need a local model, exact reproduction, unrestricted model-file access, or a definitive guarantee that uploaded work never leaves a cloud service.
What Adobe Firefly Custom Models actually do
Firefly Custom Models add a personalization layer to Adobe’s existing generative image system. You upload a curated set of reference images, choose what you want the model to learn, and Firefly fine-tunes a model for generating related images.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| What you might assume | What the feature does |
|---|---|
| Adobe builds a new AI from scratch | Adobe fine-tunes a Firefly generative model using your uploaded references. |
| The model memorizes and reproduces every image | It is designed to generate new variations reflecting recurring style, subject, character, or visual attributes. |
| The model runs on your computer | Adobe hosts and runs it through Firefly and supported Adobe workflows. |
| It replaces the artist | It produces concepts and variations that still need art direction, selection, editing, and quality control. |
Adobe says the feature is optimized for character, illustration, and photographic styles. Its individual documentation also describes models for illustration style, photographic style, and character consistency. Enterprise examples include iconography, isometric and 3D graphics, product-shot backgrounds, lifestyle photography, and brand-expression exploration.

Style and subject training are different jobs. A style model should contain images that consistently demonstrate the same visual language. A character or product model should show the same subject across varied poses, angles, scale, and context. Mixing unrelated portfolios generally makes the result less predictable.
Who can access Custom Models?
Adobe’s current individual documentation lists Custom Models in beta for Creative Cloud Individual subscribers and Creative Cloud Pro and ProPlus subscribers for Teams. Enterprise customers have separate entitlements and workflows.
That does not mean every Creative Cloud or free Firefly account has access. Availability can depend on country, account type, rollout, and an organization’s entitlement. After signing in, check whether Custom Models appears on the Firefly homepage. If it does not, confirm that you are using the correct Adobe profile, sign out and back in, and ask a Teams or Enterprise administrator to verify access. Do not assume that upgrading to any Creative Cloud plan automatically unlocks it.
Recommended Free Tools
Adobe announced Custom Models as a public beta on March 19, 2026. The interface, eligibility, model versions, and integrations may change.
How to train a Custom Model
- Open the Adobe Firefly homepage.
- Select Custom Models.
- Choose a use case, such as illustration style, photographic style, or character.
- Upload 10–30 images.
- Review and edit the generated captions and tags.
- Submit the model for training.
- Preview and test the trained model with prompts and settings.
- Publish or keep it private, depending on your workflow.
- Use it through the Firefly tools available to your account.
Image requirements
- Use JPG or PNG files.
- Adobe recommends at least 2,048 pixels for best quality.
- Keep the aspect ratio within a maximum of 16:9.
- Use clear, high-resolution images without damaged or unusually encoded files.
Adobe’s documentation says low-resolution images can cause errors. More images are not automatically better: a coherent set of 10–30 references is usually more useful than a larger set of inconsistent work.
Prepare the dataset deliberately
- For style: vary the subject matter while preserving the same palette, mark-making, lighting, composition language, or rendering approach.
- For a character or product: keep identity consistent while showing useful variation in pose, angle, scale, and setting.
- For photography: make the intended lighting, color treatment, lens language, and composition visible across the set.
- For permissions: remove unrelated artists’ work, confidential client material, incompatible stock assets, or recognizable people without appropriate permission.
- For captions: correct descriptions that identify the wrong subject, pose, style, or composition before training.
Caption review matters because the preparation process includes descriptive information associated with the images, not just the pixels. Adobe’s enterprise guide also warns that changing the underlying model version can regenerate captions and tags, overwriting existing information.

Which Firefly model version is used?
Adobe’s enterprise documentation currently lists Firefly Image Model 5 as a preview option. During the transition, some workflows may offer the previous Firefly Image Model 4 version.
That distinction matters for production planning: Model 5 should not be treated as a finished, permanently stable target while Adobe labels it a preview. Changing the model version can regenerate captions and tags, so review the metadata again before retraining.
How generation works after training
To test a model, open the Custom Models inventory, select the model, then choose More > Preview and Test, or open the model and choose Preview and Test. Enter a prompt and select Generate. Adobe documents controls including aspect ratio, content type, composition, style references, and effects.
For subject-trained models, Adobe says the prompt may remind you to include the model’s Concept. A custom model is not a magic style button: results still depend on the training category, reference quality, captions, prompt, composition, and settings.
What Custom Models are good at
- Creating multiple illustrations with a recognizable visual direction.
- Exploring variations of a character across scenes and stories.
- Maintaining a photographic mood, lighting approach, or color treatment.
- Developing brand imagery, iconography, and product-background concepts.
- Generating early concepts for later refinement in Photoshop or another editor.
The model can improve consistency, but it does not guarantee pixel-level reproduction or perfect identity preservation. A character may change appearance between generations. Clear references, varied poses, precise prompts, repeated testing, and manual corrections remain part of the workflow.
Where can you use the trained model?
For individual users, Adobe documents use through Firefly Text to image and Firefly Boards.

Adobe’s enterprise documentation lists broader integrations through Firefly on the web, Photoshop—including a beta desktop app update—Adobe Express, GenStudio, and Firefly Services. Those integrations should not be assumed to be available to every individual beta user; they may require a particular enterprise entitlement or software update.
Privacy, ownership, and commercial use
Adobe’s product-community announcement says that content uploaded to train a user’s Custom Model is not used to train Adobe’s foundational Firefly models. Adobe also says it will not share a custom model without the user’s consent.
Those are Adobe’s stated product claims, not a substitute for reviewing the terms that apply to your account. They should not be expanded into the blanket statement that your art “stays private” in every legal, technical, or organizational sense.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Keep these questions separate:
- Whether uploaded files are used to train Adobe’s general Firefly models.
- How uploaded files are processed to provide the Custom Model service.
- Who can access or use a published model.
- What happens after cancellation, deletion, or account changes.
- Who owns original artwork and generated output.
- Whether output is copyrightable or commercially usable in a particular jurisdiction.
The supplied Adobe documentation does not establish every retention, deletion, backup, export, or post-cancellation detail. Review the terms for your region and plan, including Adobe’s Generative AI Product Specific Terms. Ownership, copyrightability, publicity rights, trademark issues, source-material licenses, and commercial rights can depend on jurisdiction and how much human contribution is involved.
Publishing and sharing a model
Adobe says models can be published and shared with other users. The permissions and workflow determine what shared users can do. Models are automatically saved in a Custom Models project according to Adobe’s enterprise documentation, and users can edit, duplicate, delete, or move them between projects.
Operationally, decide whether the model should remain private, be shared internally, or support a wider team workflow. Treat the original uploaded images separately: deleting a model should not be assumed to explain the retention or deletion of the original assets unless Adobe’s applicable terms or support documentation confirms it.

Credits and current plan signals
Custom Models use the generative credits included with an eligible plan for training and generation, according to Adobe’s community announcement. Adobe’s current FAQ lists these monthly allocations:
| Plan | Monthly credits |
|---|---|
| Firefly Standard | 2,000 |
| Firefly Pro | 4,000 |
| Firefly Pro Plus | 10,000 |
| Firefly Premium | 50,000 |
Paid plans include unlimited standard image and vector generations, while premium features consume credits. “Unlimited” therefore does not mean every Custom Model operation is free of credit usage.
Adobe’s US plan page, checked August 18, 2026, listed Firefly Standard at US$9.99/month and Firefly Pro at US$19.99/month. Pro listed 4,000 monthly credits plus Firefly access, Photoshop on web and mobile, and Adobe Express Premium. Prices, promotions, taxes, regional availability, and Custom Model eligibility can change; verify the current plan page before subscribing.
When Firefly Custom Models make sense
Good fit: you already use Adobe, have a coherent set of original or properly licensed references, need many consistent variations, and are comfortable with a cloud-based beta workflow.
Poor fit: you need a fully local model, cannot upload the work to a cloud service, have fewer than 10 suitable images, want unrestricted model-file export, need a stable production API without enterprise access, or want to train on a mixed portfolio of unrelated styles.
Main trade-offs
- Convenience versus control: Adobe simplifies setup but exposes fewer low-level controls than local fine-tuning.
- Consistency versus range: preserving a visual identity can narrow experimentation.
- Integration versus dependence: Adobe workflows are convenient, but access depends on an eligible account and service.
- Beta access versus certainty: model versions, labels, availability, and behavior may change.
Common problems and fixes
Custom Models does not appear
Check the account, plan, region, rollout status, and—if applicable—the organization’s entitlement. Sign out and back in, then ask an administrator to verify access. Do not assume that every free Firefly account or Creative Cloud subscription includes the beta.

Uploads fail
Confirm JPG or PNG format, a resolution of at least 2,048 pixels where possible, and an aspect ratio no wider than 16:9. Replace damaged files and remove problematic images. Adobe’s training guide documents these requirements.
Results look generic
Recheck whether the images are consistent, captions and tags are accurate, the training category matches the goal, and the prompts describe the intended subject and composition. If the dataset is fundamentally mismatched, create a new model rather than repeatedly trying to repair it.
A character changes between images
Use clear references across varied poses and angles, describe the character precisely, test several prompts and compositions, and expect to correct selected results manually. Custom Models improve consistency; they do not guarantee perfect identity preservation.
Alternatives
Enterprise Custom Models are the stronger Adobe option for brands and teams that need governance, shared access, GenStudio, Firefly Services, or API workflows. Adobe documents the service at Firefly Custom Models for business and the Firefly Services API.
A local LoRA or fine-tuning workflow can provide more control, portability, and potentially greater privacy, but it requires suitable hardware or rented compute, technical setup, dataset preparation, security, licensing decisions, and responsibility for hosting and moderation.
Generic reference-image tools can be useful for one-off guidance on color, composition, or visual structure. They are not necessarily equivalent to a persistent, reusable personal model, so verify how each service handles uploads, training data, model export, and commercial use.
The verdict
Firefly Custom Models are a real way to generate new images that reflect your own visual language, character, subject, or photographic look. The feature is most compelling for Adobe users who need repeatable cloud-based variations and can assemble a clean, permitted dataset of 10–30 images.
