Yes—Photoshop Express is available for Windows PCs, but you may now find it in the Microsoft Store under the name Adobe Express Photos (formerly Photoshop Express). It is a lightweight photo editor that is free to download, with optional premium tools and content. It is not the same application as full Adobe Photoshop.
The official Windows download is the Microsoft Store listing. This guide explains how to install it, what your PC needs, which features are free or premium, and when another editor would be a better choice.
What is Photoshop Express for Windows?
Photoshop Express is designed for quick photo corrections and simple creative projects rather than complex, layer-based image production. It suits beginners, students, casual photographers, and social-media creators who need to crop, improve, retouch, decorate, or combine images without learning the full Photoshop workflow.
The Windows version can handle everyday adjustments, filters, portrait corrections, collages, text, overlays, and exports. Adobe’s support documentation describes Photoshop Express as a fast tool for transforming images, but feature availability can vary between Windows, mobile, web, region, account, and subscription plan.

Photoshop Express, Adobe Express Photos, Adobe Express, and Photoshop
The names are easy to confuse:

| Adobe Photoshop | The separate professional image editor for layers, masks, compositing, detailed retouching, and advanced color workflows. |
Adobe Express Photos is not “free Photoshop for PC.” It is a simpler application with a different workflow and a lower hardware barrier. Adobe describes full Photoshop separately in its Photoshop plans.
How to download Photoshop Express on Windows
- Open the official Microsoft Store listing.
- Select Get or the current installation button.
- Allow the Microsoft Store to open if Windows asks for permission.
- Sign in with a Microsoft account if required.
- Wait for the application to download and install.
- Open it from the Start menu. Search for both Photoshop Express and Adobe Express Photos if necessary.
- Sign in with an Adobe account when prompted.
Use the Microsoft Store rather than a third-party download site. Avoid portable packages, cracked installers, modified “Premium for free” downloads, and unofficial mirrors. They may contain malware, outdated files, or altered software.

The name change is the most likely explanation. Search the Store for Adobe Express Photos as well as Photoshop Express, and check whether it is already installed under the newer name.
If the listing still does not work:
- Confirm that Windows is a supported 64-bit version.
- Open Microsoft Store and select Library > Get updates.
- Restart the Store and try the official listing again.
- Sign out of and back into the Microsoft Store.
- Install pending Windows updates and check available storage.
- Check whether your Microsoft account region supports the application.
Availability can vary by country and language. If the Windows app is unavailable, use Adobe Express on the web instead of downloading an unofficial installer.
Windows system requirements
Adobe’s published minimum requirements for Photoshop Express are:

These are minimums, not performance recommendations. A modern 64-bit processor, 4–8 GB of RAM, current graphics drivers, sufficient free storage, and a stable internet connection should provide a more comfortable experience, particularly with large photographs, collages, imports, and exports.
Do not use full Photoshop’s requirements as a substitute. Adobe’s current desktop Photoshop requirements are substantially higher, including at least 8 GB RAM, an AVX2-capable processor, DirectX 12 graphics support, and 10 GB available disk space. See Adobe’s full Photoshop requirements.
Photoshop Express features
Basic photo editing
- Crop and straighten photographs.
- Adjust exposure, contrast, shadows, saturation, clarity, and related image properties.
- Apply filters, looks, and effects.
- Correct red-eye and common portrait issues.
- Reduce haze, noise, and grain where supported.
- Add borders, overlays, stickers, text, and watermarks.
- Create collages from multiple images.
- Export and share edited photographs.

Retouching and portrait corrections
Retouching tools can remove small distractions and improve portraits. For the cleanest result, zoom in, use a brush only slightly larger than the blemish, and inspect the image again at normal viewing size. If texture looks repeated or smeared, undo the correction and try a smaller brush or a different position.

Text, decorations, and collages
You can combine photographs with text, borders, overlays, stickers, and other decorative elements. Collage layouts are useful for contact sheets, event images, travel collections, and simple social posts. The exact buttons and labels may change as the Windows application’s branding and interface develop.
Video and design tools
Adobe describes Photoshop Express across its documentation as supporting some video editing and social-oriented creative features. However, the Windows build should not be assumed to contain every feature documented for mobile or web. Check the current application before relying on a specific video, design, or export function.

Which features are premium?
Photoshop Express is a freemium application: the download and basic editing are free, but some advanced controls and content require premium access. Adobe identifies features such as these as premium or subscription-related:
- Selective editing.
- Advanced healing and the Advanced Healing Brush.
- Noise Reduction and Defog.
- Smile-related portrait adjustments.
- Advanced selection and cutout tools.
- Additional filters, effects, fonts, and text styles.
- Premium overlays, borders, and stickers.
- Watermarking, where restricted by the current account or build.
- Higher-resolution output.
Premium tools provide more control, not guaranteed better results. Availability can depend on the Windows version, Adobe account, country, platform, and plan. Do not confuse a Photoshop Express subscription with an Adobe Express subscription.
Adobe’s Adobe Express pricing page lists Adobe Express Free at US$0 and Adobe Express Premium at US$9.99 per month in the United States at the time of the supplied pricing check. Those figures describe Adobe Express, not necessarily the price of Photoshop Express Premium on every Windows account or Microsoft Store region.
Useful beginner workflows
Improve a photograph quickly
- Open or import the original photograph.
- Crop and straighten first.
- Use automatic enhancement if available.
- Correct exposure, then adjust contrast and shadows.
- Correct color temperature or saturation.
- Apply a filter at reduced intensity.
- Compare the edited image with the original.
- Export a copy rather than overwriting the source.
Remove a small blemish
- Open the retouching or healing tool.
- Zoom in before editing.
- Choose a brush slightly larger than the imperfection.
- Click or paint over it once.
- Undo and retry if texture becomes distorted.
- Check the result at normal viewing size before exporting.
Create a social-media image
- Choose a canvas, aspect ratio, or collage layout for the intended destination.
- Add the photograph, text, stickers, and other elements.
- Keep important text away from the edges, where platforms may crop it.
- Review the result at 100% scale.
- Export at an appropriate size and format.
Build a collage
- Select the collage workflow.
- Choose a grid or layout.
- Add multiple photographs.
- Reposition or crop each image inside its cell.
- Adjust spacing and borders.
- Add text or decorations if needed, then export as a new image.
Add a watermark
- Open the text or watermark feature, if available on your account.
- Add a name, logo, or copyright notice.
- Reduce opacity when the tool allows it.
- Place the mark where it remains visible without overpowering the image.
- Export a separate watermarked copy.
Adobe lists watermarking among Photoshop Express premium capabilities, so this option may not be available on every free account or Windows build.
Editing tips for better results
Preserve the original
Keep the source file untouched. Export a new copy before using automatic enhancement, healing, noise reduction, filters, or enlargement.
Work in a sensible order
A dependable sequence is crop and straighten → exposure → color → contrast and shadows → retouching → creative effects → text or watermark → export. Creative effects are easier to judge after the underlying image is balanced.

Use filters lightly
Strong filters can clip highlights, crush shadows, and produce unnatural skin tones. Lower the strength and compare the result with the original before exporting.
Choose the export for the destination
- JPEG: General sharing and smaller files.
- PNG: Graphics, transparency, or text-heavy images where supported.
- Higher resolution: Printing or retaining more detail.
- Smaller files: Email, messaging, and some social uploads.
Export controls and available resolutions can change between versions and plans. Source resolution also limits how much detail an export can contain.

Installation fails
Check the 64-bit Windows requirement, free storage, pending Windows updates, Microsoft Store health, and account or region restrictions. Windows 7, Windows 8, and 32-bit Windows should not be treated as current supported targets based on Adobe’s published requirements.
Premium tools remain locked
- Confirm that you are signed in to the Adobe account that owns the subscription.
- Check whether the subscription was purchased through another platform.
- Confirm that the feature is supported in the Windows version.
- Update the application and restart it.
- Check that you are not confusing Photoshop Express Premium with Adobe Express Premium.
The app is slow
Close memory-heavy applications, reduce the number of open projects, update Windows and graphics drivers, check free disk space, and restart the app after large imports or exports. Working with a reasonable image size can also help on older hardware.

Export quality is disappointing
Check whether higher-resolution output is restricted by your plan. Also consider whether the source image was already low resolution, whether it has been repeatedly saved as JPEG, whether it was enlarged too far, or whether a social platform recompressed the upload.
The Windows app does not match the phone app
Photoshop Express exists across several platforms, but the interface and feature set are not guaranteed to match. Use the Windows Store application for Windows editing or Adobe Express on the web when its design and template tools better fit the task. An Android emulator is not the normal installation method.

Is Photoshop Express good enough for your work?
Choose Photoshop Express or Adobe Express Photos if you mainly need quick corrections, filters, crops, collages, basic retouching, text, or social-ready images on modest hardware. Its free entry point and simple workflow are its main strengths.
Choose Adobe Express when your project is primarily a flyer, presentation, social graphic, template-based post, short video, document, or branded design. Adobe Express is broader than Photoshop Express and is designed around content creation.

Alternatives
Pixlr
Pixlr is a browser-first, cross-platform alternative with web, desktop, and mobile access through a Pixlr account. It can suit users who prefer not to install Adobe software, although its current paid prices should be checked on the official pricing page.
Affinity by Canva
Affinity is frequently discussed as a more capable Adobe alternative, including for raster editing. Product positioning and access have changed recently, so verify the official Canva/Affinity page before making a purchase or signup decision. It may appeal to users seeking deeper desktop editing without adopting Adobe’s workflow, but Adobe-specific integrations and established Photoshop compatibility will differ.
Verdict
Photoshop Express remains a sensible Windows choice for fast, uncomplicated photo editing—but find it under its current Store name, Adobe Express Photos (formerly Photoshop Express). Install it from Microsoft Store, expect free basic tools plus optional premium features, and treat the published minimum requirements as a starting point rather than a performance guarantee.
