The official preview displays 19 entries. Some are full projects, while others are alternate colorways or web-exclusive patterns. That distinction matters: the preview should not be read as 19 completely separate full-length quilt patterns.

- Cut the Scrap, designed by Wendy Sheppard, is intended for a wide range of prints from a fabric stash and finishes as a bed-size scrappy quilt. It is the clearest choice for quilters who want variety rather than a tightly controlled palette.
- The Charmed Life, designed by Amanda Wilbert, uses Moda collections and specifically points to precut charm squares as a way to simplify material preparation. A charm pack is a convenient format, not a requirement that readers use a particular brand.
- All For One is an antique charm-quilt feature associated with Jody Sanders. Its appeal comes from using a single piece of many different fabrics, including paisleys, plaids, dots, and stripes.
For a scrappy or multicolor interpretation, fat quarters can be a useful way to gather coordinated variety, but the August preview does not establish fat quarters as a required material for every project. Treat them as a stash-building option rather than an exact supply list.

- Enduring Appeal color option changes the format to a wall hanging made from four pieced blocks without setting squares. The French General Jardin de Fleurs collection for Moda Fabrics is identified in the preview, and the smaller version provides a useful study in color placement.
Modern movement, bold prints, and improvisation
- Tropical Paradise, designed by Lori Q. Allison, uses Kaffe Fassett Collective fabrics for FreeSpirit in a bold-print throw with a vacation-inspired feel.
- Tropical Paradise color option offers a smaller, softer interpretation using the Poppy & Posey collection by Dodi Lee Poulsen for Riley Blake Designs. The contrast between the two versions shows how scale and palette can change the personality of the same design.
- Strings Attached, designed by Lori DeJarnatt, uses improvisational piecing to update a classic star block. It is a strong fit for quilters who like controlled structure with room for individual fabric placement.
- Strings Attached color option is a quicker wall-accent version. It removes the pieced borders and frames the star block with a red print.
- Turning Point, designed by Megan Jimenez, uses complementary colors and rotated blocks to create depth and movement in a modern throw. The preview identifies Rashida Coleman-Hale’s Speckled collection for Ruby Star Society.
- Turning Point color option uses saturated geometric batiks from Marcia Derse’s Here There collection for Anthology Fabrics. Batiks give the design a stronger surface texture and a more graphic color effect.

- Hocus-Pocus Table Runner is a Halloween project using novelty fabrics. The official preview links to a free pattern.

- Road Rules, designed by Kim Schaefer, is a child-oriented car quilt using fusible machine appliqué and the Brushline and Tuxedo collections for Andover Fabrics.

Tools and supplies to prepare before starting
Most of the issue’s pieced projects depend on accurate fabric preparation. A basic cutting station generally consists of a quilting rotary cutter, a self-healing cutting mat, and an acrylic quilting ruler. That combination is useful for cutting the squares, strips, geometric units, and selected appliqué pieces called for across the issue.

When shopping, match the tool to the work rather than assuming the most expensive option is necessary. A rotary cutter should feel secure in the hand and accept readily available replacement blades. The mat should provide enough room for the largest cuts you expect to make, and the ruler should be long and wide enough for the strips and blocks in your chosen pattern. Keep the blade closed or covered whenever it is not in use.
The Charmed Life is the most direct reason to consider precut charm squares. They can reduce repetitive cutting and provide a ready-made color group. They are also relevant to the charm-quilt idea explored in All For One, although an antique-style charm quilt may call for a much wider assortment of individual fabrics.
For Cut the Scrap, Tropical Paradise, and other multicolor projects, a fat quarter bundle can supplement an existing stash. However, the exact August project requirements should come from the pattern instructions; a general fat-quarter recommendation should not be mistaken for an issue-wide materials list.
English paper piecing for Show-Off Wall Quilt naturally calls for paper templates, small scissors, fine needles, thread, and a method for temporarily securing fabric to the papers, such as fabric glue. The preview does not establish a complete branded supply list, so readers should consult the pattern before buying materials.

The issue was a dated newsstand publication, on sale from June 4 through August 6, 2021. Magazines.com currently lists the August 2021 print back issue at $7 but marks it out of stock. That status can change, and other sellers may have used or remaining copies, so check inventory and condition directly before purchasing.
Zinio has a digital page for the August 2021 issue. Digital availability, price, download rules, and access to pattern pieces are retailer-controlled and may change. The digital listing is especially relevant because Zinio describes the issue as including digital access to the pattern pieces corresponding to the print publication.
Do not assume that a named collection is still being manufactured or is currently available. The issue identifies fabrics from FreeSpirit, Riley Blake Designs, Moda Fabrics, Ruby Star Society, Anthology Fabrics, Andover Fabrics, and French General, but those identifications describe the original sample quilts.
