Ayudha Puja is a Navaratri observance in which people honor tools, instruments, and—in some regional traditions—weapons associated with work and livelihood. What is worshipped and how the observance is timed vary by region and household; there is no single required set of objects or ritual described by the sources below.

What is Ayudha Puja?

Ayudha Puja is associated with Navaratri and expresses respect for the implements people use in their work. The objects may include vocational tools, books, musical or other instruments, agricultural implements, and weapons, depending on local custom. The Department of Tourism, Government of Maharashtra, describes both agricultural-tool worship and Shastra Puja, while Kerala Tourism describes the worship of vocational tools and instruments.

These are regional descriptions, not a universal checklist. Families and communities may observe the festival differently, and the cited sources do not establish one prescribed rite for all Hindus.

What do people worship in different regions?

Regional account Objects and related customs described
Maharashtra The state tourism department describes farmers worshipping agricultural tools and a Shastra Puja honoring weapons and tools. Its Dussehra account also mentions Shami or Apta leaves; those customs belong to that Maharashtra account and are not necessary Ayudha Puja steps everywhere. Maharashtra Tourism
Kerala Kerala Tourism describes books and vocational tools being placed in worship rooms during Navaratri. Its account connects Saraswati worship across the final three days with Vidyarambham on Vijayadashami, and describes tools and instruments being worshipped on Navami alongside images of Saraswati, Lakshmi, and Parvati. Kerala Tourism

The variation matters: a book, a work tool, an agricultural implement, or a weapon may be central in one local account and absent from another. These sources document local practices rather than ranking them or defining a standard form.

When is Ayudha Puja in 2026?

The date should be read with its place and calendar context. The official Mysuru Dasara 2026 calendar lists Ayudha Puja on Navami/Mahanavami, 20 October 2026, and Vijayadashami on 21 October. Mysuru Dasara official calendar

Are special puja supplies required?

The cited tourism sources describe objects that people honor, but they do not specify a standardized puja kit or its contents. A product labeled an “Ayudha Puja puja samagri kit” may be an optional convenience, not a religious requirement; check what it contains and whether it suits the household’s regional custom before buying.
