No verified source establishes Banksy’s personal net worth. Auction records show that some of his works have sold for millions, but a resale price is not the artist’s income or personal wealth. The available figures describe the market for Banksy’s art, not his bank balance.
Is Banksy’s net worth known?
No independently verified estimate is established by the available sources. They do not disclose Banksy’s assets, liabilities, earnings, taxes, or proceeds from resales, nor do they provide a transparent method for calculating a personal net-worth figure. Numbers circulated elsewhere should therefore be treated as unverified estimates unless they are supported by relevant financial evidence.

That distinction matters because net worth is a personal balance-sheet measure: assets minus liabilities. The sale price of an artwork, or a statistic about its performance in the market, cannot supply that information on its own.
What do Banksy’s artworks sell for?
A notable auction resale
Sotheby’s Banksy market article reports that Love is in the Bin sold for $25.4 million on 14 October 2021. The Associated Press reported the contemporaneous equivalent as almost £18.6 million. The work depicts a girl reaching for a balloon and partially shredded itself after it sold at auction in 2018, according to AP’s February 2025 report.

This is the price paid for a particular work in a resale, not proof that Banksy received that amount—or any particular share of it. The cited records establish the sale price, not the artist’s proceeds.
Sotheby’s market figures
Sotheby’s reports Banksy performance statistics attributed to Sotheby’s Mei Moses: an average compound annual return of 8.5% and an increase in value for 76.5% of Banksy works. The artist page does not state the measurement period alongside those figures, so they should be read as reported market statistics, not as a forecast or measure of Banksy’s personal wealth.

A separate Sotheby’s market report covers auction and private-sales data from 2018 through the first half of 2023. Its figures describe activity reported by Sotheby’s, not all Banksy transactions or the artist’s earnings:

| Average auction-lot value | $5.1 million | Average per lot in Sotheby’s data for 2018–H1 2023 |

| Price momentum | 53.1% | Sotheby’s market metric for 2018–H1 2023 |
| Private sales value | $33.3 million across 17 lots; $2 million average price | Sotheby’s reported private transactions for 2018–H1 2023 |
Sotheby’s report presents these as market data. They do not establish how much Banksy personally earned, owned, or retained.

Why auction prices do not equal the artist’s wealth
An auction result records what a buyer paid for a work in a particular transaction. A resale generally involves a work already in circulation; its seller may be a collector or another owner. The price alone does not identify the seller’s net proceeds or show whether the artist received any of them.
Banksy’s commercial activity is broader than auctioned paintings. Sotheby’s describes a practice spanning stencil-based street art, works on canvas, prints, and branded merchandise, and identifies Exit Through the Gift Shop as a film Banksy directed. Those activities help explain the commercial reach of the Banksy name, but the cited sources do not disclose their revenue or how much, if anything, contributed to personal wealth.

What is established about Banksy’s identity?
Identity reporting does not fill the gap in the financial evidence. In March 2026, the Associated Press covered debate following Reuters’ reported identification of Banksy; AP and the BBC both describe the claims as contested rather than artist-confirmed. AP’s coverage also reports differing views on whether the art’s cultural and financial value depends on knowing who Banksy is. A gallery director quoted in that report, Acoris Andipa of London’s Andipa gallery, said: “People buy his works because they absolutely love it,” and added, “The main feedback that I get is that they really, frankly, don’t care if they know who he is.” That is one dealer’s observation, not a survey of buyers.
