No existe una proporción universal para diluir pintura a base de aceite. Revisa la etiqueta y la ficha técnica del producto concreto: ahí se indica si hace falta diluir, qué solvente es compatible y cuánto usar para el método de aplicación elegido. Agrega solo lo especificado; demasiado diluyente puede reducir la cobertura y perjudicar el acabado o la protección.
Qué diluyente usar para pintura a base de aceite
Usa únicamente el solvente aprobado en la etiqueta o ficha técnica de esa pintura. Según el producto y el mercado, puede aparecer como aguarrás mineral, espíritu mineral, mineral spirits, white spirit o un thinner específico. Esos nombres comerciales no garantizan que los productos tengan la misma composición ni que sean intercambiables.
Pintuco clasifica su Diluyente 630 como mineral spirits y lo describe para pinturas base aceite domésticas e industriales; su ficha remite a la hoja técnica de la pintura para obtener la indicación precisa (ficha de Diluyente 630). También describe Aguarrás C-36 como solvente para pinturas base aceite y lo clasifica como espíritu mineral (ficha de Aguarrás C-36).

Rust-Oleum indica que sus mineral spirits sirven para diluir la mayoría de las pinturas base aceite y para limpiar herramientas mientras el acabado siga húmedo (información de Rust-Oleum). “La mayoría” no significa todos: confirma siempre la compatibilidad con el fabricante de tu pintura.
Cuánta cantidad agregar
Sigue la proporción indicada para el producto y el método de aplicación. Las instrucciones de una pintura no se trasladan automáticamente a otra, aunque ambas sean base aceite.

La ficha de CPP para Base al Aceite advierte que el exceso de thinner reduce el poder cubriente y puede causar chorreaduras e irregularidades. La ficha HT Base al Aceite también señala que el exceso puede afectar la compatibilidad y la protección. No agregues más solvente por costumbre ni para intentar corregir una pintura que ya está lista para usar.
Cómo diluirla sin exceder la indicación
- Identifica el producto y el uso. Comprueba en la etiqueta o ficha técnica si necesita dilución para el método elegido: brocha, rodillo o pistola.
- Confirma el solvente compatible. Usa el producto nombrado por el fabricante. La palabra “thinner” por sí sola no identifica una composición ni garantiza compatibilidad.
- Homogeneiza la pintura primero. Mezcla bien el contenido antes de medir el diluyente.
- Mide la cantidad indicada. Respeta la proporción o el límite de la ficha técnica y añade solo lo necesario para ese método de aplicación.
- Mezcla y comprueba la consistencia. Si el producto está listo para usar, no lo diluyas sin autorización de su fabricante.
Seguridad al trabajar con solventes
Algunos solventes para pintura base aceite son inflamables. La ficha de Diluyente 630 de Pintuco identifica como inflamables tanto el líquido como sus vapores y recomienda trabajar con ventilación, usar lentes de seguridad y guantes impermeables, evitar que el producto llegue a fuentes de agua y consultar su hoja de seguridad (ficha técnica de seguridad y uso).

- Trabaja en un lugar bien ventilado y mantén el solvente lejos de llamas, chispas y otras fuentes de ignición.
- Consulta la ficha de seguridad del producto que manipules y sigue el equipo de protección que indique. Para la pintura descrita en su ficha, CPP menciona guantes, lentes de seguridad, mascarilla con filtro para vapores orgánicos y ropa que evite el contacto con la piel (ficha técnica de CPP).
- No viertas sobrantes al drenaje. Sigue las instrucciones locales para gestionar residuos y las indicaciones de la ficha de seguridad.
