Behr Paint Company is a subsidiary of Masco Corporation and makes the BEHR, KILZ, and WHIZZ brands. Its catalog covers far more than wall paint: it includes primers, stains, floor and specialty coatings, surface-preparation products, sealers, and applicators. Behr says its products are sold exclusively at The Home Depot; the two companies’ partnership began in 1979.
Who owns Behr Paint Company?
Behr describes itself as one of Masco Corporation’s largest subsidiaries. Its brands include BEHR, KILZ, and WHIZZ, with products ranging from paints and primers to decorative finishes, stains, specialty surface products, and applicators. Behr lists locations in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Chile, and India. Behr’s company overview provides its description of the business and brands.
What does Behr make?
Behr’s catalog is organized around projects and surfaces, not just paint type. It includes interior and exterior paints; primers; wood stains and finishes; floor, concrete, and specialty coatings; spray paint; cleaners and prep products; caulks and sealants; patch and repair products; protective clear coats; waterproofers; and tools and applicators. The product catalog lets shoppers browse by project area, substrate, opacity, sheen, and base material.

How to choose a Behr product for a project
Start with the surface and conditions, then select the coating. A wall, deck, floor, and concrete patio may need different products even when all are in the same home. Brand tier alone does not determine whether a product is suitable.
- Identify the surface and location. Note the substrate—such as drywall, wood, masonry, or concrete—and whether it is indoors or exposed to weather.
- Choose the product category. Decide whether the project calls for paint, primer, stain, floor coating, sealer, or a specialty coating.
- Set the appearance and use requirements. Compare sheen and opacity, and consider how the space or surface will be used.
- Check preparation and application instructions. Read the product label and current technical data sheet for surface preparation, primer needs, application conditions, and coat requirements. Behr’s professional resources include technical data sheets, safety data sheets, and architectural coating specifications.
- Read the conditions on any performance claim. A guarantee or product feature may apply only to specified colors, substrates, or application conditions.
Interior paint tiers and one-coat claims
Behr’s catalog includes PREMIUM PLUS, ULTRA, MARQUEE, and DYNASTY lines. Behr describes DYNASTY Interior as an advanced paint and primer with stain repellency and scuff resistance. Its one-coat coverage guarantee applies to qualifying colors in specified DYNASTY and MARQUEE collections—not every color or surface. Some surfaces may still need a separate primer. Check the current product details and label before relying on a one-coat claim. Behr’s interior paint information describes its interior products.

Exterior paint and color-fade protection
Behr describes DYNASTY Exterior as offering 10-Year Color Fade Protection for specified colors in its DYNASTY Exterior palette. The company recommends two coats for optimal durability. Treat the duration as a Behr product claim, and check the applicable colors and instructions for the exact product. Behr’s DYNASTY Exterior page states the claim and its conditions.
Where is Behr paint sold?
Behr’s current professional website says its products are sold exclusively at The Home Depot. The relationship goes back to 1979, when Behr says its partnership with the retailer began. Behr’s professional site describes current distribution; the company history records the partnership’s start. Availability of a particular product can vary, so check the retailer’s current listings or a local store.

What Behr says about sustainability
Behr reports that more than 100 BEHR and KILZ products are GREENGUARD Gold Certified for low VOC emissions. It also reports recycling an average of more than 7.5 million pounds of material annually and diverting more than 83% of refuse from landfill. The sustainability page does not clearly attach a reporting year to those figures, so they should be understood as Behr-published claims rather than dated current-year or independently verified statistics. Behr also says its manufacturing locations have independently certified environmental management systems and describes initiatives involving durability, lower-impact packaging, and low-emission certifications. Behr’s sustainability page presents these statements.
