Benjamin Moore White Dove OC-17 is the color behind the “best seller for years” claim. Benjamin Moore color marketing manager Arianna Barone says it has regularly topped the company’s best-selling list, as reported by Real Simple. That is an attributed company claim, not a publicly documented sales ranking; the appeal designers describe is a soft, flexible white, not a guarantee that it will suit every room.

It is White Dove OC-17, part of Benjamin Moore’s Off White Collection. In a Real Simple article republished by AOL on April 2, 2026, Barone said the color has regularly topped Benjamin Moore’s best-selling list for years. The article does not provide sales figures or a ranking methodology, and no independent public sales data is cited, so the claim is best understood as the company representative’s account rather than a verified public ranking.

Benjamin Moore describes White Dove as a clean, classic white. Its official U.S. color page lists a light reflectance value (LRV) of 83.16; LRV indicates how much visible light a color reflects, but it cannot predict precisely how the paint will look in a particular room. The manufacturer cautions that screen and printed representations may differ from the actual paint color. See Benjamin Moore’s White Dove OC-17 color page.
Is White Dove a warm white, and where do designers use it?
Barone describes White Dove as having a subtle hint of warmth. The designers quoted in the article characterize it as soft rather than stark, with a balance of warm and crisp. Those are professional opinions, not a promise that the color will look the same across different spaces.

Barone suggests using White Dove on walls, trim, and ceilings for a cohesive scheme. The article also mentions wainscoting, beadboard, and furniture. A white can read differently on a large wall than on a small trim detail, and adjacent materials affect its appearance. Consider whether you want a continuous, low-contrast look or a visible difference between walls and trim.
What colors coordinate with White Dove?
Benjamin Moore lists Balboa Mist OC-27, Kendall Charcoal HC-166, Revere Pewter HC-172, and Country Redwood HC-183 as coordinating colors on its official page. The Real Simple article also suggests Classic Gray and Pristine for softer pairings, and Forest Green and Hancock Gray for bolder combinations. Its designers discuss possibilities such as putty, greige, natural wood, olive, oxblood, and slate blue. Treat these as starting points: test the colors beside your existing finishes and furnishings before committing.

How to tell whether White Dove works in your room
- Get a physical sample. Benjamin Moore’s U.S. listing offers an 8 oz brush-on sample of White Dove OC-17. The manufacturer says it covers approximately a 2 ft × 2 ft area with two coats and recommends applying two coats. Check the official sample listing for current availability and product details.
- Test it in the actual space. Apply the sample to the wall or to foam board, then view it in different parts of the room. Check it in changing natural light and with the artificial lighting you use in the evening.
- Compare it with fixed elements. View the sample beside flooring, counters, tile, cabinetry, trim, and large furnishings. Notice whether it appears warmer or cooler than those surfaces and whether the contrast feels intentional.
- Make the decision at the intended scale. If the plan is to paint walls, trim, and ceiling in the same color, assess the sample in each of those contexts. A small sample cannot reproduce the full effect of a completed room, but it can help reveal whether the color’s undertone and brightness work with your finishes and light.
The sample is intended for color evaluation, not to withstand sun or weather, according to Benjamin Moore. Its listed coverage is approximate, so it is a test area rather than a measure of how much finish paint a project will require.
