There is no one scribbler board that suits every child: an LCD writing tablet, a magnetic drawing board and a marker-based light board work differently. Choose by the drawing experience your child wants, their age, and the supplies and safety directions for the specific model.

What counts as a kids’ scribbler board?
The term covers several reusable drawing surfaces, not one standard product. An LCD tablet, a magnetic board and a light board that uses markers differ in how children make marks and clear them. Product features and age guidance also vary, so check the manufacturer’s information for the exact model.

Compare the three types
| Type and example | What children use | Age and included features | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Magnetic drawing board: Fisher-Price StoryBots Slide Writer (GPM28) | An attached stylus makes marks on an erasable magnetic screen. | Fisher-Price lists it for ages 3 and up. It includes movable letter tiles, print guidelines and a stencil. The product page says it was released in 2020. | It can support letter and spelling practice as well as doodling. The cited page does not establish whether it is currently available, so verify availability before choosing it. |
| Marker-based reusable light board: Crayola Ultimate Light Board | Children draw with markers on a reusable illuminated surface; a removable back panel can be used for tracing. | Crayola recommends it for ages 6 and up. The listing includes six mini markers and says three AA batteries are required. | It works only with specified Crayola marker types. Check the listing for compatibility before buying or replacing markers. |
| LCD drawing tablet: ZAZU LCD drawing tablet | The cited manual identifies it as an LCD drawing tablet. | The manual specifies a CR2025 battery and indoor use. | The manual warns about small parts and says the product is not suitable for children under 3. Those instructions apply to this ZAZU model, not every LCD tablet. |
Choose by the kind of drawing your child enjoys
For doodling and simple writing
An LCD writing tablet offers a digital drawing surface, while a magnetic board uses a stylus and magnetic screen. Compare the individual model’s size, erase method and any lock feature; the cited sources do not establish common specifications across either category.

- Use the exact model’s age guidance. The examples differ: Fisher-Price lists its StoryBots Slide Writer for ages 3 and up, while Crayola recommends its Ultimate Light Board for ages 6 and up.
- Confirm what is included and what is required. The Crayola listing includes six mini markers but says three AA batteries are required. It also limits compatibility to specified Crayola marker types.
- Read the model’s manual and warnings. The ZAZU manual specifies a CR2025 battery, indoor use, a small-parts warning and an under-3 restriction. Do not assume those details apply to other tablets.
- Consider practical drawing features. Check the usable drawing area, surface, erasing method, any lock, and included tools such as a stylus, stencil, tiles or markers.
- Verify current product information. Product details and availability can change; check the manufacturer or retailer listing for the model you plan to buy.
What product descriptions cannot tell you
The cited manufacturer sources describe features and instructions, but they do not provide a controlled comparison of line quality, durability or educational benefit. They therefore cannot establish which board performs best, lasts longest or teaches most effectively. Choose according to the child’s preferred drawing method and the model’s stated requirements rather than treating any option as a tested winner.
