Blessed Friday can mean two different things depending on context: it is an English rendering of the Muslim greeting Jumu’ah Mubaarakah, a wish for a blessed Friday, and it has also been used as a name for retail discount events in Pakistan. As a greeting, its permissibility is not the same question as whether the exact phrase is established as a practice of the Prophet Muhammad.
What does “Blessed Friday” mean as a greeting?
As a greeting, “Blessed Friday” translates Jumu’ah Mubaarakah (also written Jumu’a Mubarak): a wish or supplication that someone have a blessed Friday. The Jordanian Iftaa’ Department explained in an answer dated 13 February 2020: “Thus, saying ‘Jumu`ah Mubaraakah’ to a Muslim is supplicating Allah that he has a blessed Friday.”

Friday has particular religious significance in Islam. Türkiye’s Directorate of Religious Services, in its 2024 English sermon “Friday Prayer Etiquette,” calls it a blessed day and discusses attending Friday prayer and listening to the sermon. The sermon opens: “Today is Friday. It is the most auspicious of days upon which the sun rises.”
Is it acceptable to say Jumu’ah Mubaarakah?
There is no single ruling to attribute to all Muslims or scholars. The cited authorities distinguish whether the greeting is permissible from whether the exact wording is an established prophetic practice.

| Authority | Position on the greeting |
|---|---|
| Jordanian Iftaa’ Department | Its 13 February 2020 answer treats the phrase as a permissible supplication, while cautioning against attributing it to the Prophet without evidence. |
| SeekersGuidance, in a Hanafi answer by Faraz A. Khan | Says it found no textual basis for the exact phrase in hadith or fiqh works, but considers congratulating someone with it permissible by analogy with general congratulations. |
| Mathabah.org, in an answer by Shaykh Yusuf Badat | Describes the greeting as permissible subject to conditions, while noting that it is not an established practice of the Prophet. |
In practical terms, someone may use the expression as a friendly supplication according to these cited answers, without claiming that the particular wording is a prophetic instruction or established prophetic custom.

In Pakistan, “Blessed Friday” has also appeared as a retail-promotion label connected with Black Friday discounts. The Associated Press of Pakistan reported on 17 January 2018 that the Council of Islamic Ideology recommended renaming Black Friday as Blessed Friday and said discounted goods were permissible. A 7 December 2019 Urdu-language answer from Jamia Uloom Islamia likewise discussed Blessed Friday and White Friday sales and said buying from such sales was permissible.

This is a documented regional retail use, not the general meaning of the phrase. In a religious greeting, it refers to wishing someone a blessed Friday; in an advertisement, it may simply name a sale.
