Bliss is a free wallpaper collection by BasicAppleGuy that reimagines the familiar Windows XP landscape in a minimalist, macOS-inspired style. It is an independent reinterpretation—not Microsoft’s original photograph or an official Apple release—and comes in Morning, Day, Evening and Night versions for Mac, iPhone and iPad. Mac users can also choose between two dynamic files: one that changes through the day and one that follows Light or Dark appearance.

What is macOS Bliss?
BasicAppleGuy’s macOS Bliss takes the rolling green hill and open sky associated with Windows XP’s “Bliss” and redraws the idea as a cleaner, stylized digital landscape. The creator describes the project as a reinterpretation in the visual language of macOS Big Sur and Monterey wallpapers. The page dates the collection to August 6, 2021.
The original Bliss is a photographic landscape; this collection is an independent homage with four treatments of the scene, suggesting morning, daytime, evening and night. The design keeps the hill as its central reference while changing the light and color. It is not a cropped or upscaled copy of the Microsoft wallpaper, and neither Microsoft nor Apple is identified as its publisher.

The four principal static designs are available in device-specific Mac, iPhone and iPad downloads. The creator describes the dynamic files as Mac-only. The Time-Based file responds to time of day; the Light/Dark file follows the system’s appearance setting. The creator does not provide a complete transition timetable, so do not expect a documented schedule of exact changeover times.

Where to get the files
Use the original macOS Bliss page rather than image-search previews or rehosted copies:
- Open the creator’s page and find the variant you want.
- Choose the download for Mac, iPhone or iPad for a static design.
- For a Mac wallpaper that changes automatically, choose either Time-Based Dynamic or Light/Dark Dynamic.
Device-specific files are the sensible starting point: phone and tablet screens are portrait, while Mac displays are generally landscape. The creator describes Mac versions as supporting resolutions “up to 6K,” but the page does not provide a complete pixel-dimension table for every file. Check the selected download’s details rather than assuming one size fits every display.
How to set it as your wallpaper
Menu names can vary with operating-system version. These are general steps, not creator-provided instructions for every device.

On Mac
- Download the Mac version you want and locate it in Downloads or the folder where your browser saved it.
- Open System Settings → Wallpaper.
- Use the option to add or choose a photo, then select the downloaded file.
If you want automatic changes, select the actual dynamic file rather than a static preview. BasicAppleGuy’s later dynamic-wallpaper setup guidance recommends adding dynamic files through System Settings → Wallpaper → Add Photo; setting one from an image preview or another shortcut may not preserve its dynamic behavior. That advice is general guidance, not a Bliss-specific installation guarantee.
On iPhone
- Download the iPhone version and save it to Photos if it is not already there.
- Open the Lock Screen customization interface and add or select the image.
- Choose the Lock Screen, Home Screen or both, as the available options allow.
On iPad
- Download the iPad version and save it to Photos or Files.
- Open wallpaper settings and select the image.
- Choose whether to use it on the Lock Screen, Home Screen or both.
The creator’s automatic dynamic files are Mac-specific; do not assume the same time-based or Light/Dark switching will work on iPhone or iPad. Use the device-specific static designs there.

If the dynamic wallpaper looks like a still image
First check that you selected the actual Mac dynamic download, not a preview or one of the static variants. Then add it again from System Settings → Wallpaper → Add Photo and select it in the Wallpaper panel. If it still appears static, the import method or operating-system support may not preserve the behavior. Use Morning, Day, Evening or Night as a reliable manual alternative.

Cropping, framing and color
A wallpaper that looks zoomed or cropped is often encountering an aspect-ratio mismatch, not a damaged file. A landscape Mac image may lose part of the composition on an ultrawide screen; a portrait phone image can frame differently across phone models. During setup, try repositioning the image, and make sure you chose the file intended for your device. On a Lock Screen, the clock and widgets may cover part of the scene. Motion or perspective effects can also affect framing, so turn them off if they get in the way.
Colors can vary with True Tone, Night Shift, display profiles, or compression if the file passed through a messaging or social app. If a download seems missing, check Downloads, Files and Photos; if it was an archive, extract it first. If a link has moved, return to the creator’s page rather than relying on a third-party mirror.
Is this the original Windows XP Bliss wallpaper?
No. The original “Bliss” is the Windows XP-associated photograph; macOS Bliss is BasicAppleGuy’s stylized reinterpretation. If you want the historical Microsoft image, look for that original separately. This collection uses the familiar hill-and-sky idea to create new designs for Apple-device screens; it should not be presented as an official Microsoft wallpaper pack or an Apple-sponsored release.
Sharing and usage
The creator’s Bliss page is the authority for the collection’s current terms. A free download does not by itself mean the files are public domain or licensed for commercial use. Download from BasicAppleGuy, avoid re-uploading the files as your own, and link back to the creator when sharing. For commercial use, seek permission unless the Bliss page’s current terms explicitly allow it.
For the simplest choice, use the device-specific static file: Day for the familiar bright look, or Morning, Evening and Night for their different lighting moods. On Mac, choose Time-Based Dynamic to cycle through all four or Light/Dark Dynamic to follow appearance. Start with the creator’s download page for the correct file and current terms.
