The 2024 Bulgari Octo Finissimo Sketch editions put a drawing of the watch’s movement on the dial: steel reference 104163 is limited to 280 pieces, while rose-gold reference 104165 is limited to 70. Both use the 40 mm, 6.4 mm-thick Octo Finissimo Automatic case and Bulgari’s BVL138 micro-rotor calibre. The visual idea is compelling, but the available product information establishes design and specifications—not an on-wrist review.
What makes the Octo Finissimo Sketch different?
The dial is not a conventional printed pattern. Bulgari says the satin-vertical brass-rhodium dial on the steel 104163 “replicates the sketch of the movement that powers the watch.” WatchTime identifies the drawing as the work of Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani, Bulgari’s Product Creation Executive Director, and describes details including the plate decoration, escapement, micro-rotor, screws, and jewels.

The movement illustration takes the place of ordinary dial furniture. WatchTime notes that the design has no hour markers, uses skeletonized central hour and minute hands, and places the small-seconds display at 7 o’clock. The result makes the mechanism’s drawn architecture the primary visual feature rather than hiding it behind a conventional layout. This is an interpretation of the published design, not a claim about legibility or appearance on the wrist.
WatchTime placed the editions in Bulgari’s 140th-anniversary year, 2024. Its coverage also says the Octo Finissimo line had set nine records over the preceding decade; that is WatchTime’s characterization of the collection’s history.

The core specifications are closely matched, so the practical distinction supported by the published facts is chiefly material, edition size, and market-specific pricing. A smaller production number does not by itself establish future resale value.

What the BVL138 adds to the design
The automatic BVL138 is notably thin: Bulgari Japan’s 2024 press release gives a movement thickness of 2.23 mm. Bulgari’s product specifications list a platinum micro-rotor, 36 jewels, a 60-hour power reserve, and a 3 Hz frequency; the steel specification also states 21,600 vibrations per hour. Both watches retain small seconds and are rated to 100 m water resistance.

Those figures explain how the Sketch dial’s subject relates to the watch itself: the illustration depicts the movement powering the watch rather than a generic mechanical motif. Specifications do not, however, establish how clearly the hands read against the drawing in different lighting or how the bracelet feels during wear.
Price, release timing, and availability
WatchTime reported 2024 launch prices of €17,800 for steel and €51,000 for rose gold. Bulgari’s international steel page displayed €17,800 when accessed in 2026, while its Hong Kong rose-gold page displayed HK$414,000 at that time. These are distinct regional references, not a directly comparable currency conversion or a guarantee of current worldwide pricing. The official pages showed purchase or availability controls, but that does not establish stock at a particular location.

Bulgari Japan’s press release listed planned September 2024 release timing for the rose-gold reference and Japanese retail pricing. Since the release timing is historical and pricing can vary by region and date, check the relevant Bulgari market page or an authorized retailer for current local terms.
Where these editions fit among Sketch watches
The steel 104163 and rose-gold 104165 are the two automatic 2024 editions covered here. They should not be confused with the earlier titanium Octo Finissimo Sketch reference 103672, a separate 10th-anniversary edition. Search results also point to a 2024 Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Sketch reference 104192, but its specifications are not established by the available official product information here, so it is not included as a verified comparison.
