Let’s face it – we all like to have a change every once in a while. When your home has looked the same way for a long time, it’s only natural to want to switch it up and make it look a little different. Now, the easy solution would be to paint the garden posts. But is it even possible to paint concrete garden posts in the way that you would paint a wooden fence post?
The answer is yes, it is indeed possible to paint concrete garden posts. It’s also a great way to give a new look to your garden posts. There are a number of reasons why painting concrete is a good idea too. It can make your concrete look fresh and new.
It can also cover up surface discoloration and can make signs of wear and tear much less obvious. You may even find that your concrete garden posts last longer too since they are less likely to get more damage. The concrete posts will even be easier to clean and maintain when they are painted.

Here’s the caveat. It’s not always easy to paint concrete. You can’t just put the paint onto the concrete surface as you would with a drywall surface.
Concrete can absorb the moisture and the paint, meaning that the paint is a lot less likely to stick well to the concrete. As such, you will need to take further steps to prepare the concrete in advance. It’s still a fairly easy thing to do, but it just requires a little extra work.
For instance, you will need to clean the concrete’s surface before you begin to paint. Then you will need to check how porous the concrete is and see if there’s any excess moisture. You’ll also need to ensure that you choose the right paint for the job – you can’t just use any old dry wall paint.
In short, painting a concrete garden post is possible, and can often even be a good idea!

Can I Paint My Concrete Fence Posts?
If you wish to paint your concrete fence posts, then it is indeed possible to do so. You can do it relatively easily too, so long as you take a few extra things into account and choose the right kind of paint.
There are some things to remember before you try to paint your concrete fence posts. First of all, it’s not the same as painting drywall.
Concrete is a porous substance, which means that any paint will be absorbed into the concrete fairly easily. You will need to prepare the concrete before you begin painting in order to ensure that the paint properly adheres to the concrete.
In addition to this, you can’t just choose a drywall paint. You will need to choose the right kind of paint for painting concrete. For instance, masonry paint is usually a good choice. You should also avoid vigorously painting concrete too – you don’t want fragile concrete to crumble.

It’s also a good idea to prime the concrete before you start painting. This will help the paint to adhere to the concrete much better.
Painting concrete is fairly simple. You need to start by cleaning the surface, preferably with some warm water and paint. This will help to get rid of any older paint.
You can use a pressure washer to do this. Then get rid of any thick oil or grease from the concrete – this is important for making sure that none of the paint ends up discoloring later down the road. You can put concrete patches on any defective areas, and seal up any concrete to stop the moisture from coming through.
Make sure that you paint the concrete when it’s dry. Ideally, you should have roughly 2 or 3 days of dry weather before you try to paint the concrete, since it will need to have time to dry.

Then, put a layer of concrete paint primer onto the surface – it’s best to use a paint roller since this is faster. The primer helps the concrete to stick. If you’re painting over older colors then you may need to have 2 coats of primer instead of one.
Then, put one thin coat of paint onto the concrete using your paint rollers. Make sure that it’s done evenly in order to get the best paint job. You will likely find that you need to do another coat the next day, too. It should be fully completed within 1 to 2 days once it has had the time to dry. Is painting concrete a good idea? Painting concrete can be a good idea if you want to improve its appearance, but it may not be a good long-term solution as paint can peel and chip over time.
Does Fence Paint Work on Concrete?
The answer to this question generally depends on the fence paint that you’re using. There are some paints, such as Cuprinol, that will work well on pretty much any kind of surface. It will work well on stone, concrete and even terracotta. There are other brands that will also work on concrete, too.
Ultimately, the main thing that you need to do is to check the paint in question to ensure that it works on your surface of choice. You can search online for paints that will work specifically for concrete.

Make sure that you read other customer reviews too, since these will give you an indication about whether the paint is any good. Ideally, you want to get a fence paint that works well on concrete – one that the concrete won’t absorb easily.
You will also need to ensure that you put primer on the concrete before painting to ensure that the paint will stick correctly to the surface. If you choose the right fence paint, then you can be sure that you will get fantastic results.
