To download the current Affinity application, go to affinity.studio and choose Get Affinity. Sign in with an existing Canva account or create a free one, then download the installer for your supported operating system. The current product is Affinity by Canva—a single application combining vector illustration, pixel/photo editing, and page-layout tools—not three separate default downloads for Affinity Designer, Affinity Photo, and Affinity Publisher.
How to download Affinity by Canva
- Open the official Affinity website at affinity.studio. Avoid software-download mirrors and unofficial installer sites.
- Select Get Affinity. Canva’s support information identifies affinity.studio/get-affinity as the current acquisition page.
- Sign in with your Canva account. If you do not have one, create a free Canva account.
- Choose and download the installer for the operating system offered for your device.
- Run the installer and complete any sign-in, entitlement, or verification step requested by the application.
For installation-specific problems, use the official Affinity help and support material reached from the Affinity website rather than downloading a replacement installer from a third-party site.
Is the Canva Affinity download really free?
Canva describes the core Affinity application as free for everyone, including existing users and people who create a new free Canva account. There is no special Education, Nonprofits, or paid Canva eligibility requirement for the general download.

There is an important qualification: the free Affinity application should not be confused with every Canva-connected feature. Canva says that Canva AI tools inside Affinity are available to Canva premium-account users, while the Affinity Terms state that some paid features may depend on the user’s subscription or require additional payment. In practical terms, you can download and use the core professional design application for free, but optional Canva services and AI capabilities may have separate availability or pricing rules.
What is included in the new Affinity app?
The current release brings the principal functions of the former Affinity product line into one workspace. For a painter or illustrator, that means you can move between precision vector work, pixel-based painting and photo editing, and document layout without installing three separate current applications.

Canva also says Affinity can open or work with formats such as PSD, AI, PDF, SVG, TIFF, and IDML. That is helpful if you are moving from Adobe software or working with files from the older Affinity line. It does not guarantee that every effect, layer type, font, adjustment, or document feature will transfer perfectly. Keep the original file and test important projects before making Affinity your only copy.
Which devices support Affinity?
Canva’s launch information specified Mac and Windows availability, with iPad described as coming soon at launch. Canva’s Affinity Terms refer to Mac, Windows, and iPad formats, but platform availability can change. Check the current Get Affinity page immediately before downloading to confirm that your operating system and device are supported.

Do you need a Canva account?
Yes. The current Affinity Terms link access to a Canva account, so this is not an entirely account-free download. You can use an existing Canva login or create a free account during the acquisition process.

The terms also allow individual users to install and run the software on devices they personally own or control, subject to the applicable agreement. Team and organization use may be covered by additional multiple-user provisions. If you are installing Affinity for a studio, school, or company, review the current terms rather than assuming that an individual installation rule covers every employee or shared device.
Can Affinity work offline?
Affinity stores work locally on your device, but “free download” does not mean “guaranteed to work forever with no internet connection.” Canva’s terms mention online entitlement verification. You may therefore need an internet connection for sign-in, activation, or a later entitlement check even though your project files are stored locally.

Moving work between Affinity and Canva
Exporting Affinity work to Canva
Affinity can export directly to Canva. Canva’s help guidance says to use either the Export dialog or Quick Export, choose To Canva, and then select an Uploads or Projects folder.
The key limitation is editability: when an Affinity file is imported into Canva, it appears as a static image or graphic. Canva cannot directly edit the original Affinity layers. This matters if your painting contains separate line art, masks, adjustment layers, text, or many editable elements. Keep the layered Affinity document as your master file and treat the Canva copy as an exported asset unless you have verified the exact result you need.
Opening Canva work in Affinity
Canva designs cannot be opened directly in Affinity. Instead, export the design from Canva as one of the formats Affinity can open, such as PDF, SVG, PNG, or JPG, and then import or open that exported file in Affinity.

- SVG: generally the most relevant choice when you need vector content to remain editable, although complex Canva designs may still require cleanup.
- PDF: useful for print-oriented work, but layer behavior and editability can vary.
- PNG or JPG: dependable for a finished raster image, but the design is flattened into pixels.
For a painting, PNG or JPG is often appropriate for a finished reference image or web post. For an illustration, logo, or pattern that must be recolored and reshaped, try SVG first and inspect the result rather than assuming the entire Canva document will remain intact.
Privacy, local files, and Canva AI
Canva states that Affinity stores work locally on the user’s device and that Canva does not use Affinity content to train or develop AI features, including content created with Canva AI tools inside Affinity. That is useful reassurance for artists concerned about their original work.
It does not mean that every account or upload question disappears. When you log in with a Canva account, Canva’s privacy policy applies, and optional AI tools have additional AI Product Terms. If you export a painting to Canva or upload it to a Canva project, review your sharing, upload, and data preferences for that service. Distinguish between the local Affinity master file and a copy uploaded to an online Canva workspace.
Can teachers, schools, and nonprofits get Affinity?
Canva has separately stated that verified Canva for Education and Canva for Nonprofits users can access Affinity at no charge. Optional add-ons are excluded, and availability may not be identical in every country. These programs are not required for ordinary users because Canva describes the general Affinity application as free.

New Affinity versus Affinity V2
The naming is easy to confuse:
- Current download: Affinity by Canva, the unified application combining vector, pixel/photo, and layout tools.
- Legacy software: Affinity Designer 2, Affinity Photo 2, and Affinity Publisher 2, the separate V2 products covered by their own legacy support context.
If an old tutorial tells you to download Designer, Photo, and Publisher separately, it may be referring to the V2 product line rather than the current unified application. The official support center now directs people looking for the new product to affinity.studio and labels its older-product material as Affinity Version 2 support.

Do not infer from the new launch that old V2 licenses were cancelled, removed, or made identical to the new application. If you already use V2, retain the installer and files you need and consult the current official support information before changing an established production workflow.

The download page does not show my device
Check the current Get Affinity page for platform availability and supported operating-system information. A launch announcement or an older video may describe a different availability status, especially for iPad.

I expected three separate applications
Look for the current unified Affinity by Canva application. The new product is designed to bring vector, pixel/photo, and layout work into one app. Use the V2 support area only if you specifically need the older Designer 2, Photo 2, or Publisher 2 products.
The app asks me to sign in
That is expected under the current account and entitlement model. Sign in with Canva or create a free Canva account. If verification fails, confirm that you are using the intended account and that the device is connected to the internet, then consult official Affinity support.
My Canva import is flattened
That is expected for the Affinity-to-Canva workflow described by Canva: the imported Affinity file appears as a static image or graphic rather than an editable set of Affinity layers. Continue editing the layered original in Affinity and export a fresh copy when needed.
My Canva design is not editable in Affinity
Export it from Canva first. Choose SVG when preserving vector editability is the priority; choose PNG or JPG for a finished raster image, or PDF when that best suits the document. Inspect fonts, effects, masks, and transparency after opening the export.

- Use affinity.studio or its official Get Affinity page.
- Confirm that the download is the current unified Affinity by Canva application.
- Use a Canva account; do not expect an account-free installation.
- Check current Mac, Windows, or iPad availability for your device.
- Keep the original layered Affinity files and back them up.
- Remember that Canva imports of Affinity work are static graphics, not editable Affinity layers.
- Separate the free core app from optional Canva premium and AI features.
