Today’s experience is called ChatGPT Images 2.5; useful ways to use it beyond viral style trends include making visual explanations, creating text-led graphics, and editing or transforming an existing image.

OpenAI’s current Images in ChatGPT documentation says ChatGPT Images is available on all tiers. Availability does not mean every plan has identical features: Images with thinking is available on Plus, Pro, and Business, with Enterprise and Edu access coming soon according to the help page. The December 2025 ChatGPT Images product update reported image generation as up to four times faster; that is OpenAI’s product claim, not an independent speed test or a guarantee for every image.
The practical point is that image generation can help communicate an idea visually. OpenAI’s launch announcement described uses including diagrams, visual explanations, and infographics. It can also create text-led graphics and transform uploaded images, but results still need review.

Specify the intended audience and the details that must be included. Treat factual labels and instructions as draft material to check, not as verified guidance.

Use broad visual direction that fits your purpose—such as a restrained editorial illustration, a hand-drawn diagram, or a limited color palette—instead of relying on a famous studio or artist as the entire instruction. The Studio Ghibli trend is useful context for why image generation became widely discussed, but it is not the only way to produce a coherent visual.

Text-led outputs are drafts until reviewed. Check spelling, names, dates, numbers, spacing, and legibility at the intended size. A layout editor can be useful for final corrections and publishing dimensions, but it is optional.
3. How can you edit or transform an existing image?
Upload an image and describe the change, or select a region if you want to focus the edit. OpenAI’s current help also documents aspect-ratio controls and image management. You might change a background, add or remove an element, or explore a different visual treatment while asking the model to retain important details.
Give the editor one controlled change at a time, for example: “Change the background to a plain light wall. Keep the person, clothing, lighting, and camera angle unchanged.” Preservation instructions are goals, not guarantees.

OpenAI warns that selection highlights are not always precise and that changes may extend beyond the selected area. Review the whole image after each edit, not only the selected region. The safest editing loop is:
- Open Images or upload the image in a conversation.
- Describe one change, and specify what should remain unchanged.
- Use a selection if helpful, while remembering that it may not define an exact boundary.
- Review the entire result for unintended changes.
- Undo or retry with a narrower instruction if important details changed.
What is the best way to write a ChatGPT image prompt?
A useful prompt states the task, subject and audience, composition, visual direction, required text, and exclusions. For edits, add what must remain unchanged. Make one adjustment at a time when refining the result.

Why did ChatGPT change parts of my image that I did not ask it to change?
Selections are not always precise, and an edit may extend beyond the selected area. OpenAI describes this limitation in the current Images in ChatGPT help material.
Use explicit preservation language—such as “keep the face unchanged” or “preserve the original camera angle”—but check whether the result actually followed it. Compare the edited image with the original at full size, paying attention to people, objects, text, and details near the requested edit.
