A “Christmas star tree skirt” can mean either a skirt cut into a star shape or a round skirt decorated with stars. Check the product photos and dimensions to tell which it is, then choose a diameter that suits your tree, stand and available floor space.
What is a Christmas star tree skirt?
The term covers two different designs. A star-shaped skirt has a pointed outline; a conventional round skirt may instead have star embroidery, appliqué, quilting or printed fabric. Some product titles use “star” for the motif rather than the silhouette, so confirm the shape in the photos and listed measurements.

For example, an Etsy marketplace listing describes an eight-pointed, star-shaped skirt with a 70-inch diameter: star-shaped Christmas tree skirt. That listing illustrates the design category; it is not an independent quality review or a guarantee of current availability.
How to choose the right size
- Measure the tree’s widest point. Use the full width of the assembled tree, not its height.
- Compare the skirt diameter with the tree width and stand. Balsam Hill recommends a skirt at least 6 inches larger than the tree’s full width. This is retailer guidance, not a universal sizing standard: Balsam Hill’s sizing advice.
- Check the floor area. Account for the stand, furniture, walkways and how much room you want around the tree for gifts. A wider skirt offers more floor coverage but may crowd a small room.
Balsam Hill gives 48–60-inch skirts as examples for many 6–7.5-foot trees, and 72–84-inch skirts for larger trees. These are retailer examples, not a guaranteed fit for every tree of those heights; tree width and the space around it matter.

What to compare before buying
- Silhouette and coverage: Determine whether the edge is pointed or round, and check the diameter rather than relying on “star” in the listing name.
- Fabric and finish: Listings may specify materials such as cotton, cotton wadding or felt. Check whether the skirt is lined or padded and how its finish suits your tree and room.
- Opening and fastening: Look for how the skirt opens around the trunk and closes again. One example uses fabric ties; closure details vary by product.
- Care instructions: Follow the specific item’s label or product page. Cleaning directions for one design do not necessarily apply to another.
- Stand and room fit: Confirm that the opening can accommodate your stand and that the skirt will lie within the available floor space.

Consider a collar if you want a more contained stand cover; choose a skirt if you want fabric coverage extending outward. Check the collar’s dimensions and stand compatibility before purchase.
