Colorpik is a real smart-pen product that aims to scan a color from a physical object, mix ink inside the pen, and draw with the result. Its “16 million colors” claim describes the range it says it can create, not proof that it can reproduce every color exactly. The manufacturer’s public materials do not provide independent color-accuracy tests, and its product pages disagree on some specifications and purchase policies. It may appeal to artists curious about sampling real-world colors, but it is a risky choice for professional color matching or anyone who needs predictable app support and after-sales terms.
How Colorpik is supposed to work
Colorpik is not merely a stylus that changes a digital brush color. It is marketed as a physical-ink pen with an RGB sensor, internal ink reservoirs, a mixing and dispensing mechanism, interchangeable tips, rechargeable electronics, and Bluetooth and app connectivity. The advertised workflow is:

Surface → RGB sensor → color value → ink mixture → nib → mark on paper
Point the sensor at a surface and press a button to capture its appearance. The pen then attempts to combine its own inks and dispense a similar color through the selected tip. It does not extract pigment from the object: it measures reflected light and tries to reproduce the result using its own ink. Colorpik describes the scanning, mixing, and dispensing process on its official site and product information page.
What does “16 million colors” mean?
More than 16 million is a familiar figure in digital color: 24-bit RGB represents roughly 16.7 million combinations of red, green, and blue channel values. Colorpik uses the figure to describe the range of colors it says its sensor and ink system can handle. It does not mean the pen contains millions of separate inks.
A digital color value and a physical ink mixture are different things. The sensor records a value; the pen has to approximate that value with a limited set of pigments. The result is constrained by the inks’ gamut, their mixing behavior, the paper’s color and absorbency, the nib, and the conditions under which the surface was scanned. A color may also look different under another light or viewing angle.
Colorpik says it can capture colors and convert them to RGB, CMYK, LAB, and HEX values. Those digital conversions can be useful for keeping a reference or sharing a color specification, but they do not establish how closely the ink mark matches the reference. The public product material reviewed does not provide independent colorimetric testing, Delta E tolerances, calibration conditions, or a demonstrated range of reproducible physical colors. It is more accurate to call Colorpik a color-capturing and color-reproducing pen than a proven professional color-matching instrument.

Advertised specifications—and inconsistencies to check
The figures below are manufacturer listings, not independently verified performance results. Some of the official pages conflict with one another, so check the exact listing and package contents before ordering.
| Feature | What the official material says | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Color sensor | RGB sensor | Manufacturer claim; no published accuracy tolerance in the cited product material. |
| Connectivity | Bluetooth and USB | Current device and software support should be confirmed. |
| Phone compatibility | One product page lists iOS 7+ and Android 4.0+ | These are very old minimum-version claims, not evidence of compatibility with current phones or apps. |
| Battery life | 15 hours in one section; 75 hours in a specification table | Contradictory figures; ask which applies to the unit being sold. |
| Tips | Three sizes in one place, four in another, and six interchangeable tips elsewhere | Confirm the included count and replacement availability. |
| Dimensions | 189 × 16.8 mm, also listed as approximately 6.65 × 0.66 in | Manufacturer listing. |
| Ink yield | “30 miles” per cartridge | Marketing claim; the measurement method and conditions are not specified. |
| Price and refill | Product page listed the pen at $248, reduced from $299, and a refill at $25 | Promotional, date-sensitive listings; verify price, stock, shipping, taxes, and refill availability at checkout. |
The product page’s listed package includes a pen, a four-color refill set, charging cable, quick-start guide, accessory kit, 199-color book, carrier box, and six tips, along with app and tutorial access. Because the tip counts differ across the site, treat that as a listing to verify rather than a guaranteed contents list. See the official product page.
Paper drawing is not the same as digital stylus use
The main distinguishing idea is making a physical mark after sampling a physical color. Colorpik also advertises digital-device use and apps for saving, naming, sorting, sharing, and converting captured colors, as well as transferring color information for Photoshop or CorelDRAW workflows. That does not by itself make the pen equivalent to a conventional pressure-sensitive tablet stylus.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The public product material does not provide a current compatibility matrix, a confirmed list of supported apps and operating systems for 2026, latency figures, or a pressure-sensitivity specification. It also does not establish that every advertised integration still works on current devices. If your priority is drawing directly on an iPad or desktop tablet, confirm the exact device, operating system, app, and input features before buying. A mature digital stylus may be the better fit for pressure, tilt, palm rejection, and low-latency drawing; Colorpik’s distinctive use case is the sensor-to-physical-ink workflow.
Practical limits when scanning and drawing
Color sensing depends on the light reflected from a surface, not on an abstract color divorced from its surroundings. Direct sun, colored indoor lighting, shadows, gloss, texture, transparent materials, small targets, and printed halftone patterns can all complicate a reading. For a more repeatable sample, use stable, diffuse lighting and a matte, evenly colored area. Treat scans from glossy, reflective, translucent, very dark, neon, or highly textured surfaces as especially uncertain.

Even a good reading can produce a different-looking mark on different paper. Ink transparency, paper whiteness and absorbency, drying, and viewing light all affect the final appearance. The pen also has to meter and mix small quantities of ink reliably; a pale mark, changing color during a stroke, uneven flow, clogging, dried ink, or contamination would undermine the result. A crowdfunding update describes a redesigned mini-valve intended to improve ink-flow control, indicating that flow management was an engineering concern during production (Indiegogo update).
It has a crowdfunding history, so distinguish a listing from delivery certainty
Colorpik began as a crowdfunding project and later posted manufacturing and delivery updates. An Indiegogo update dated March 18, 2024, described electronics soldering, plastic molding, and a revised mini-valve, with delivery then expected around April 20, 2024. A later campaign update page shows a January 8, 2026 delivery-notification and packaging update. The official site presents a retail product and price, so the project is not just a viral concept; however, those pages do not establish how many backers have received units, current inventory, or reliable delivery times by destination.

These may refer to different campaign records or tracking scopes, so neither figure should be treated as a single uncontested total (BackerKit; Hyperstarter).
If ordering through a campaign rather than ordinary retail, understand the added fulfillment risk. Indiegogo’s backer terms say the platform does not guarantee a project’s success, fulfillment, quality, or delivery; refunds and cancellations are primarily the creator’s responsibility. For any order, confirm who is selling and shipping the unit, whether it is current inventory or campaign fulfillment, the estimated dispatch date, international shipping and duties, and how returns work in your country.

The official site listed a $248 sale price against a crossed-out $299, and a $25 replacement cartridge. Both are price signals from promotional pages, not a guarantee of current price or stock. The claimed “30 miles” of ink per cartridge has no stated test method, so it is not enough to estimate your cost per page or drawing. Proprietary cartridges also mean the pen’s usefulness depends on replacement supplies remaining available; check that before treating the device as a substitute for a set of ordinary markers.

There is a material policy inconsistency. The refund-policy page describes a seven-day no-hassle return for unused products, a 30-day defect return policy, and a one-year limited warranty. The terms page instead describes a 30-day satisfaction guarantee and a two-year limited warranty. Before purchase, save the policy displayed at checkout and ask support in writing which terms govern your order. Also clarify who pays return shipping, whether opening or using a cartridge affects eligibility, how defects are assessed, and whether replacement tips and ink are available.
Who might find Colorpik worthwhile?
It may interest artists, makers, educators, or hobbyists who value the unusual act of sampling an object and drawing with a physical approximation of its color. It could reduce the need to carry many marker colors for exploratory sketching, and a physical mark can be useful outside a digital-art workflow. Those are reasons to be curious about the product, not proof of precision or reliability.
It is a poor fit if you need guaranteed color matching for branding, print production, or industrial work; if you want inexpensive, widely available consumables; or if your primary need is a dependable pressure-sensitive digital pen. Conventional marker and paint systems offer more familiar pigment behavior and replenishment, though they do not automatically sample arbitrary colors. For tablet-first drawing, an established stylus such as an Apple Pencil or a Wacom pen is designed for digital input rather than physical ink reproduction.
What to verify before ordering
- Ask for confirmation of current stock, dispatch timing, and delivery coverage for your country.
- Get the battery-life figure and exact tip count for the specific unit and package in writing.
- Confirm that the companion app is currently available and supports your precise phone or tablet and operating-system version.
- Check which digital features are supported, rather than assuming pressure sensitivity or a working Photoshop/CorelDRAW integration.
- Verify the price and availability of cartridges and tips, plus shipping, taxes, and return costs.
- Save the checkout policy and clarify the conflicting return and warranty terms before paying.
Creative Bloq described the concept as promising while advising caution about crowdfunding; that is a useful framing for a product whose public claims remain more detailed than its independent performance evidence (Creative Bloq coverage).
