Under Comic-Con International’s current 2026 Art Show rules, artwork created wholly or partly with artificial intelligence is not allowed in the Art Show. The rule is specific to that exhibition; it does not establish a ban on AI across every part of Comic-Con.

What Comic-Con’s current Art Show rule says
Comic-Con International’s official Art Show guidance states: “Material created by Artificial Intelligence (AI) either partially or wholly, is not allowed in the art show. If there are questions, the Art Show Coordinator will be the sole judge of acceptability.” The wording covers material made partly with AI as well as work made entirely with it, and gives the Art Show Coordinator authority to decide questions of acceptability.

The page describes the 2026 Art Show as featuring original drawings, paintings, sculpture, jewelry and other work. Reproductions are allowed under its rules; that does not override the separate restriction on material created wholly or partly by AI.

How the policy changed
When the 2026 rules first appeared, reporting described a narrower allowance: AI-produced work could be displayed only as not-for-sale, clearly labeled material. Times of San Diego reported that artists objected and Comic-Con changed the wording after the backlash. Its account also said disclosure was required if a prompt or parameter invoked a specific artist’s style. Times of San Diego’s report
The Comics Beat likewise reported on January 14 that the initial not-for-sale policy was updated to prohibit AI-generated art. The Comics Beat’s report helps establish the sequence; for the rule exhibitors should follow now, the official Art Show page provides the current text.

Does the rule apply to all of Comic-Con?
No convention-wide prohibition is established by this policy. The official wording names the Art Show, so it should not be presented as a rule for every Comic-Con event, exhibitor, display or activity. The available information does not establish whether other parts of the convention have separate AI policies.
