Jennifer Farley’s SitePoint roundup names eight stylish fonts attributed to creators and publishers connected with the Behance network. It was first published on June 30, 2010, and updated on February 13, 2024. Treat it as a starting point for font discovery—not confirmation that every download is still available or free for commercial use. Read the roundup on SitePoint.
The eight fonts in the roundup
The list below preserves the names and creator attributions in Farley’s article. Its linked destinations are historical references; current availability and licensing have not been established for all eight.

How to choose one for a design
Use the names and variant labels as a shortlist, then assess each font against the actual project. The roundup does not provide a complete, current feature comparison, so it cannot establish which typeface is best for a particular layout.
- Match the visual style to the job. Compare how a font looks in your own words, sizes, and layout rather than relying on a name or brief description alone.
- Check the available variants. The roundup explicitly names multiple variants for St Marie, Deekar, and Code. For the other entries, it does not establish a full current family or weight range.
- Test legibility in context. Preview the typeface at the intended size and in the actual medium—such as a headline, caption, or longer passage—before committing to it.
- Verify the download and its terms. Follow an available link to the original creator or publisher where possible, and read the license that accompanies the specific font files you obtain.
What “free” does—and does not—tell you
A free download is not, by itself, permission to use a font in commercial work. Farley’s article warns that usage rights differ by font and advises checking the license before commercial projects. Current primary license files have not been verified for every entry in the list, so do not assume that all eight allow commercial use.
#1 Best Overall
Third-party listings are not a substitute for the font’s own license. For example, FontToolbox’s listing for Juice contains conflicting license wording and advises readers to clarify commercial use with the author. Fontesk labels St Marie free for commercial use and describes it as a humanistic slab serif suited to body text and headlines, but that listing should also be checked against the original license. How current are the links and details?
The roundup’s original publication date is June 30, 2010; SitePoint reports that it was updated on February 13, 2024. Those dates explain why its download destinations and availability should be treated as historical rather than guaranteed. Check that a destination still works and that the files and license correspond to the typeface named in the article before using it.

Farley also suggests learning more about typography through books. A typography design book can be a useful next step for studying type choices and layout, but the article does not endorse a particular title.
