What the ComMarker Omni X is
The Omni X is an enclosed ultraviolet laser engraver using a 355-nm UV source. ComMarker currently lists 6 W and 12 W configurations, autofocus, a maximum claimed marking speed of 10,000 mm/s, and support for surface and internal engraving. Its enclosure is marketed as Class 1, with OD 5+ laser-light protection, a door sensor, safety key, temperature detection, overheat protection, and an integrated laser shield. See the published specifications and ComMarker safety guidance.
UV lasers process material differently from diode, CO2, and fiber systems. Their shorter wavelength and higher photon energy can mark some materials with less heat spread, charring, or melting than a longer-wavelength laser. That makes UV attractive for acrylic, plastics, coated metals, electronics, ceramics, stone, glass, crystal, and small detailed products. It does not make the Omni X a universal laser: fiber systems remain more natural choices for deep metal engraving, while CO2 machines are generally better suited to thick wood and acrylic cutting.

These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. In particular, a 0.0019-mm spot does not guarantee 0.0019-mm visible detail on a finished product. Visible quality also depends on lens selection, artwork, scan spacing, focus, vibration, material response, contrast, and power settings. Spot size, positioning accuracy, image resolution, and finished-mark quality are related but different things.

The Omni X is designed around fine marking, but buyers should separate four concepts:
- Spot size: the approximate optical spot produced by the laser.
- Positioning accuracy: how precisely the motion system places the beam according to the manufacturer’s specification.
- Image resolution: the artwork, scan-line density, and processing settings used for the job.
- Visible mark quality: the actual edge sharpness, contrast, texture, and consistency on a particular material.
Autofocus and triangulation-based height measurement should reduce setup effort, especially when changing between blanks. They cannot compensate for unsuitable material, a poorly aligned object, dirty optics, incorrect lens selection, or an artwork file that contains more detail than the material can reproduce.
A smaller field lens may be preferable for fine work, while a larger field lens provides more working area. That trade-off matters when comparing a small jewelry mark with a larger plaque or crystal block. Before buying, ask ComMarker which lens and software workflow are recommended for the exact internal-engraving job you intend to run.

Speed and real production throughput
ComMarker advertises a maximum working speed of 10,000 mm/s. That is a useful machine specification, but it is not a promise that every job will run at that speed or finish quickly.
Actual cycle time depends on the engraved area, hatch spacing, number of passes, pulse frequency, power, resolution, material response, focus, fixturing, and whether the job is surface or internal. Setup, autofocus, loading, cleaning, inspection, and failed test pieces also belong in a small business’s real throughput calculation.
For a meaningful buying comparison, time representative jobs rather than relying on the headline speed:
- a small jewelry logo;
- a 50 × 50 mm crystal image;
- fine text on acrylic;
- a glass surface mark;
- a repeated batch of identical blanks.
No independent controlled timing study is established here, so the 10,000-mm/s figure should remain attributed to ComMarker rather than presented as normal production throughput.
3D glass and crystal engraving: the feature that matters most
“Glass engraving” can describe two very different processes. Surface engraving marks the outside face. Subsurface or internal engraving creates points beneath the surface of a transparent object. A 3D internal engraving is typically built from depth-aware data, a point cloud, or voxel-like marks inside the glass or crystal. It is not the same as carving a raised 3D relief into the outside.
ComMarker lists 3D internal engraving as a supported capability. That makes the Omni X potentially valuable for awards, portraits, ornaments, memorial pieces, and personalized crystal products. It does not mean every transparent object or every 3D file will work automatically.
Results depend on:
- the glass or crystal’s optical properties, clarity, composition, inclusions, and internal stress;
- the object’s curvature, thickness, and dimensions;
- the selected lens and calibration;
- the exact focal depth beneath the surface;
- object positioning and fixturing;
- the source file and software’s internal-engraving workflow;
- energy density, pulse settings, speed, and repeated passes.
Optical crystal or consistent K9-style blanks may behave differently from ordinary soda-lime glass. Coatings, bubbles, cracks, stress, and inconsistent composition can produce cloudy areas, weak contrast, unwanted surface marks, or cracking. A test on a sacrificial blank is essential before using a valuable product or accepting a production order.

A practical internal-engraving workflow
- Choose the correct lens and mode. Internal and surface work may use different optical setups. Do not assume the lens installed for ordinary marking is also the best choice for subsurface work.
- Secure and measure the object. Use the lifting platform, a suitable fixture, or rotary hardware where appropriate. Irregular crystal needs repeatable positioning.
- Calibrate on a test blank. Establish focus depth and energy settings before processing the final object.
- Prepare the data. Surface work may use raster or vector artwork. Internal work may require a 3D model, depth map, point cloud, or proprietary import format.
- Set the internal focal region. The beam must be focused beneath the surface, not merely on the outside face.
- Run a low-risk test. Check for cracks, cloudiness, weak contrast, double images, and unwanted surface marks.
- Record the successful settings. Save the lens, object dimensions, focal depth, power, speed, hatch, passes, software version, and firmware version.
ComMarker’s specification page lists PNG, BMP, JPG/JPEG, DXF, PLT, AI, SVG, STL, and OBJ among supported file types. It also names ComMarker Studio, ComMarker App, and LightBurn. That does not establish that every file type or program supports every internal-engraving function.
Software: an important unanswered buying question
ComMarker Studio and ComMarker App are the most likely places for machine-specific functions such as autofocus, proprietary calibration, or internal-engraving controls. LightBurn may be useful for general design and surface-marking workflows, but feature parity should be confirmed for the current software and firmware versions before purchase.

Ask the seller specifically:
- Can LightBurn control the Omni X’s autofocus and height measurement?
- Which application handles internal 3D engraving?
- Does internal work accept STL, OBJ, depth maps, point clouds, or another format?
- Are lens profiles and internal-engraving presets supplied?
- Which functions require ComMarker’s own software?
This matters because a capable optical system can still be frustrating if the specialty workflow is poorly documented or locked to unfamiliar software. The Omni X manual and operation tutorial are the appropriate documents to check against the software version supplied with your machine.
Materials: where UV processing helps
ComMarker lists the Omni X for wood, leather, acrylic, glass, crystal, ceramic, stone, plastics, coated metals, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, silver, gold, platinum, and titanium. Those are manufacturer-listed capabilities, not a guarantee of equally good results across all grades, finishes, thicknesses, or colors.
Promising use cases
- Crystal and transparent glass: internal engraving and surface personalization.
- Acrylic and plastics: fine marks with potentially less heat spread than some alternatives.
- Coated or painted metals: removing or changing a surface coating.
- Electronics and small components: detailed identification marks where excessive heat is undesirable.
- Jewelry and personalization: small logos, names, serials, and decorative details.
- Wood, leather, paper, and fabric: useful where delicate marking matters, although other laser types may be cheaper.
Materials requiring caution
- Unknown plastics that may melt, discolor, or release hazardous fumes.
- PVC, vinyl, and chlorine-containing materials, which should not be processed without appropriate manufacturer and safety guidance.
- Highly reflective metals.
- Glass with coatings, bubbles, internal stress, or inconsistent composition.
- Food-contact products unless cleaning and safety requirements are clearly addressed.
- Thick cutting jobs, where a CO2 machine may be the more suitable tool.
ComMarker’s “1,500+ materials” marketing claim should not be treated as an independently validated materials database. Test the exact stock you plan to sell.
Can the Omni X cut?
Yes, ComMarker publishes cutting claims, but they should be read as manufacturer-rated maximums rather than normal production recommendations. The listed figures include:
| Material | 6 W | 12 W |
|---|---|---|
| Basswood | 8 mm, multiple passes | 12 mm, multiple passes |
| Acrylic | 6 mm, multiple passes | 10 mm, multiple passes |
| Stainless steel | 0.6 mm, multiple passes | 1 mm, multiple passes |
These figures do not turn the Omni X into a high-power CO2 cutter or a deep-engraving fiber system. Its strongest justification is precision UV marking and specialty transparent or heat-sensitive materials.

6 W versus 12 W
| 6 W | 12 W | |
|---|---|---|
| Standard field | 150 × 150 mm | 250 × 250 mm |
| With slide extension | 150 × 400 mm | 250 × 400 mm |
| Best fit | Small products, jewelry, detail-focused work | Larger jobs, higher throughput, more cutting capacity |
Choose the 6 W model when most products are small and intricate, the lower purchase price matters, and you do not need the 250 × 250-mm field. Choose 12 W when the larger work area, longer production sessions, or additional cutting capacity will generate real value.
More power does not automatically produce finer detail. Internal crystal performance should be evaluated separately from surface marking and cutting performance. If your work consists mainly of small logos and occasional crystal pieces, the 12 W model may provide expensive headroom rather than a meaningful advantage.
Safety, ventilation, and installation
The Omni X is marketed as a fully enclosed Class 1 system. That is materially different from operating an open Class 4 UV laser, but “Class 1” does not mean risk-free operation. The enclosure addresses direct laser exposure; it does not eliminate fumes, dust, fire risk, electrical hazards, or material-specific emissions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteComMarker advises grounding the machine, following local and national laws, and operating it in a dry, ventilated environment between 10°C and 28°C with humidity no higher than 70%. Use appropriate extraction or filtration for smoke, dust, and odor. Stop if fumes escape or the material behaves unexpectedly.
Confirm the exact regional certification documents, voltage, warranty terms, and service arrangements before ordering. The machine is listed at approximately 32 kg and 515 × 320 × 655 mm, so it needs a stable work surface and a practical route for delivery and installation.

Alternatives
xTool F2 Ultra UV
The xTool F2 Ultra UV is the closest direct alternative identified here. Its official page lists a 5 W UV laser, claimed speed of 15,000 mm/s, 3D inner engraving, dual 48-MP cameras, and separate inner- and surface-engraving lenses. The listed standalone price was $4,299 excluding VAT at the research snapshot.
xTool may appeal to buyers prioritizing camera-assisted setup and a guided workflow. The Omni X offers 6 W and 12 W choices, a lower listed starting price than the xTool standalone model, and ComMarker’s rotary and slide-extension ecosystem.
ComMarker Omni XE
The Omni XE was listed from approximately $3,299, below the Omni X’s approximately $3,599 starting price. However, ComMarker presents the XE as Class 4, while the Omni X is marketed as an enclosed Class 1 system. That enclosure difference affects installation, operating environment, and compliance; the XE is not simply a cheaper Omni X.
Fiber and MOPA fiber lasers
ComMarker’s B6 and B6 MOPA are better aligned with metal marking, color marking, and deeper metal work. Choose that category when bare-metal depth, metal color, or metal-production economics matter more than internal glass engraving.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →CO2 and diode lasers
A CO2 laser is generally the more logical choice for thick wood, acrylic, fabric, and broad nonmetal cutting. A diode laser may be better value for occasional wood, leather, paper, and coated-material work. Neither is a like-for-like substitute for UV subsurface crystal engraving.
Who should buy the Omni X?
- Buy it for: internal crystal or glass engraving, delicate or coated materials, small multi-material personalization, and an enclosed UV workflow.
- Choose 6 W for: jewelry, small awards, electronics, ornaments, and detail-focused products where the 150 × 150-mm field is sufficient.
- Choose 12 W for: larger work, the 250 × 250-mm field, longer sessions, or genuinely useful additional cutting capacity.
- Do not choose it primarily for: deep bare-metal engraving, thick wood or acrylic cutting, occasional low-cost hobby work, or a completely plug-and-play 3D crystal process.
Verdict
The ComMarker Omni X is a legitimate specialty UV engraver, not merely a marketing concept. Its most persuasive advantages are the enclosed design, short-wavelength processing, autofocus, two power levels, and support for subsurface engraving inside suitable transparent objects.
Its headline figures need restraint. The 0.0019-mm spot, 0.001-mm positioning figures, and 10,000-mm/s maximum are manufacturer specifications, not guarantees of visible resolution or completed-job throughput. The 3D glass feature is real according to ComMarker, but it remains a material- and workflow-dependent process that requires the right blank, lens, focal depth, data format, calibration, and testing.
The Omni X is worth its substantial price when UV-specific work—especially internal crystal or glass products—will pay for the system. For deep metal work, thick cutting, or basic craft engraving, a fiber, CO2, or diode machine is likely to be the more rational purchase.
