Para volver a fijar un botón, marca su posición colocando el ojal sobre la prenda, cose con aguja e hilo doble y deja una pequeña holgura entre el botón y la tela. Esa separación permite formar una espiga y abrochar la prenda sin tirantez. Remata siempre con un nudo por el revés.
Materiales que necesitas
- El botón de repuesto.
- Aguja para coser a mano.
- Hilo que combine con la prenda; usarlo doble aporta más resistencia.
- Tijeras pequeñas.
- Un alfiler, palillo o mondadientes para mantener separada la tela del botón mientras coses.
Cómo coser un botón plano de dos o cuatro agujeros
- Marca la ubicación. Superpone el ojal sobre la prenda y señala el punto exacto donde debe quedar el botón.
- Prepara el hilo. Corta aproximadamente un brazo de hilo, enhebra la aguja y haz un nudo. Para reforzar la unión, cose con el hilo doble.
- Ancla desde el revés. Introduce la aguja desde la parte interior de la prenda, justo en la marca, y súbela por uno de los agujeros del botón.
- Deja una separación. Coloca un alfiler, palillo o mondadientes sobre el botón y continúa cosiendo por encima de él. El espacio que queda debajo será la espiga necesaria para abrochar.
- Repite las pasadas. Pasa la aguja por cada agujero varias veces, manteniendo el botón centrado y el hilo firme sin aplastarlo contra la tela.
- Forma la espiga. Retira el separador, saca la aguja entre el botón y la tela y enrolla el hilo alrededor de las puntadas varias veces. Aprieta el enrollado para compactarlo.
- Remata. Lleva la aguja al revés de la prenda, haz un nudo firme y corta el sobrante.
Patrón para un botón de dos agujeros
Pasa el hilo varias veces por los dos agujeros, manteniendo la misma tensión. El resultado será una sola línea visible de hilo.

Patrones para un botón de cuatro agujeros

En ambos casos, cose primero los dos agujeros más cercanos entre sí y luego los restantes. Mantén el mismo patrón en los demás botones de la prenda para que el acabado sea uniforme.

Cómo coser un botón con pie
Un botón con pie incorpora un lazo en la parte posterior y no tiene agujeros que atraviesen la cara. Coloca el botón en la marca, pasa la aguja por ese lazo dos o tres veces dejando una separación adecuada respecto a la tela, enrolla el hilo alrededor de la espiga y anuda por el revés. No atravieses la cara del botón con la aguja.
Si usas máquina de coser
- Mide la distancia entre los agujeros del botón.
- Instala el prensatelas especial para botones.
- Baja los dientes de arrastre según las indicaciones del manual de tu máquina.
- Coloca el botón y gira el volante a mano para comprobar que la aguja entra en cada agujero sin golpear el botón ni el prensatelas.
- En un botón de cuatro agujeros, cose primero el par más cercano y después desplaza el botón para coser el segundo par.
- Al terminar, lleva los hilos al revés de la prenda, haz los nudos y corta el excedente.
Qué hilo y qué separación elegir
El hilo debe combinar con el color de la prenda y ser compatible con el grosor del tejido y del botón. El hilo doble aumenta la resistencia en la costura a mano. La separación creada con el alfiler o palillo debe permitir que el ojal pase por el botón sin forzar la tela; botones grandes, telas gruesas y ojales voluminosos pueden necesitar una espiga más larga que los botones pequeños sobre telas finas.

Comprobación y problemas habituales
- El botón queda tirante: probablemente no dejaste suficiente holgura. Retira la costura y vuelve a coser usando un separador.
- El botón se inclina: comprueba la marca con el ojal antes de coser y mantén la tensión uniforme en todas las pasadas.
- El hilo se afloja: da varias pasadas por cada agujero, enrolla bien la espiga y termina con un nudo firme por el revés.
- La prenda no abrocha: verifica que el botón está alineado con el ojal y que la espiga deja espacio suficiente para introducirlo.
Acabado según el tipo de botón
Elige líneas paralelas si buscas un acabado clásico, una cruz en X si quieres que el dibujo diagonal se vea, y un botón con pie cuando el propio diseño ya incorpora la espiga posterior. Las recomendaciones pueden variar según el grosor de la tela, el tamaño del botón y el tipo de hilo.
