Nerdforge’s Martina and Hans turned an entire room into a fantasy wizard’s study, with a spiral staircase, fireplace and ornate faux window. The project’s most practical design detail is less visible: they worked with a theater set builder so the room could be disassembled and relocated.
What Nerdforge built
The makeover transforms a room into an immersive, theatrical study rather than adding a few decorative props to an ordinary space. Make: writer Caleb Kraft singled out the spiral staircase and fireplace as striking set pieces, and highlighted the ornate faux window as a favorite detail. The window is a constructed backdrop feature, not evidence of a real opening.

The creators’ video is titled “I Built a Wizard Study… in my entire room,” while Make: describes it as a wizard’s study. The feature documents the finished project’s visual character, not a step-by-step painting or construction process.
Why portability shaped the design
According to Make:, Martina and Hans designed the room with a theater set builder so it could be taken apart and moved. That makes the project relevant not only as a fantasy-room makeover but also as a scenic design: the appearance of a permanent, detailed interior had to work alongside the ability to dismantle it.

For anyone planning a similar painted room or set, portability is the one documented design consideration to take from this example. Think about how large scenic elements will separate and travel before treating them as fixed architectural features. The coverage does not explain how Nerdforge engineered individual joints or panels, so it cannot serve as a construction plan.
