If Cricut Design Space’s Make It button does nothing, check the project first: Cricut documented a defect affecting the first click when multilayer text was added to the Canvas and marked that issue fixed in its release notes. If the entire desktop app is blank or will not load, use Cricut’s cache-clearing and View > Force Reload procedure instead. iOS troubleshooting follows different, symptom-specific steps, and uninstalling can remove projects and downloads stored only on the device.
Identify what “not working” means
The remedy depends on where the failure occurs. Make It normally opens the Prepare flow, where Design Space shows mats and material-load choices based on the selected machine, project dimensions and load type. A button that never opens Prepare is a different problem from reaching Prepare but being unable to choose a mat or material.

1. Test for the multilayer-text issue
Cricut’s Design Space release notes state: “‘Make’ button not responding on the first click when multilayer text is added to the Canvas has been fixed.” If the affected project contains multilayer text, test it again after confirming that Design Space is on a release containing the fix.
Use a controlled project test
- Save the current project.
- Open a simple project without multilayer text and select Make It.
- Return to the original project and try again.
- Note whether the failure affects only that project, only the first click, or every project.
A simple project opening Prepare while the multilayer-text project fails points to project-specific behavior. It is not proof of a current widespread bug, so record the Design Space version before contacting Cricut.

2. Check whether Prepare is actually opening
When Make It works, Design Space moves to Prepare. The next screen presents mat and material-load choices according to the selected machine and the design’s dimensions. If you reach that screen, the Make It control has responded; troubleshoot the available choices rather than replacing hardware.
If the wrong machine or load options appear
- Verify that the machine selected in Design Space is the one you intend to use.
- Review the project dimensions and whether the design requires more than one mat.
- Choose the load type and compatible material shown for that machine.
These are downstream Prepare decisions. They do not explain a button that remains inert before Prepare appears.

3. Desktop: clear the cache only when the app matches the symptom
Cricut’s desktop cache article addresses Design Space that fails to load or displays a blank white screen. Its procedure is:
- Close Design Space completely.
- Open the Cricut Design Space LocalData cache folder for your operating system.
- Delete the contents of that folder, following Cricut’s Windows or Mac path for your computer.
- Launch Design Space again.
- Select View > Force Reload.
The Windows and Mac LocalData locations differ, so use Cricut’s official cache article for the path that matches your system rather than deleting an unrelated folder. If Design Space is otherwise usable and only Make It is unresponsive, cache deletion may not match the symptom; first test another project and capture the version and exact behavior.

4. iOS: follow the error-specific sequence
Cricut’s iOS troubleshooting guidance varies by the message or behavior shown. Applicable steps can include:
- Sign out of Design Space and sign back in.
- Restart the iPhone or iPad.
- For the relevant error, offload or reinstall the app as Cricut instructs.
- Try the project again and record whether Prepare opens.
- Contact Cricut Member Care if the applicable steps do not resolve the problem.
Do not assume the desktop LocalData procedure applies to iOS. The mobile app has its own troubleshooting path.

Protect projects before uninstalling
Cricut warns that uninstalling Design Space can remove projects, images and fonts saved locally rather than in Cricut Cloud. Before uninstalling:
- Save or sync projects to Cricut Cloud when that option is available.
- Confirm which downloads and files exist only on the device.
- On iOS, consider Cricut’s documented offload option where it applies; offloading is intended to preserve local app data better than deleting the app outright.
Only proceed with a reinstall after you understand what may be removed. A reinstall is a recovery step, not a guaranteed fix for a button-only failure.

What to record before contacting Member Care
The title alone does not identify the cause. Give Cricut a reproducible description containing:
- Device and platform (Windows, Mac, iPhone or iPad) and operating-system version.
- Design Space version.
- Whether the app is blank, fails to load, or works except for Make It.
- Whether the button does nothing, responds only after repeated clicks, or opens Prepare and then stalls.
- Whether the project contains multilayer text.
- Whether other projects reach Prepare.
- The selected machine and any exact error message.
This information lets Member Care distinguish a project-specific control problem from a broader loading or platform issue without risking unnecessary deletion of local files.

What not to buy for this problem
A nonresponsive software button is not evidence that you need a new Cricut machine, replacement mat, connectivity accessory or troubleshooting consumable. A mat becomes relevant only after you successfully reach Prepare and need a compatible load option. Use Cricut’s software guidance and Member Care as the primary remedies.
The Bottom Line
Start by testing a project without multilayer text and checking the Design Space release that contains Cricut’s documented fix. Use cache clearing and View > Force Reload only for desktop blank-screen or loading failures; use Cricut’s separate iOS steps on mobile. Protect device-local projects before any uninstall, then give Member Care your platform, version and exact symptom.
