The Cute and Cuddly Throw is a pieced plush-fabric quilt pattern with a finished size of 58 × 66 inches. Its long fabric strips make up the top; the pattern calls for a 66 × 72-inch batting piece and notes that plush stretch can affect piecing. The instructions were updated March 24, 2026.

Finished size and fabric-width requirement
AllPeopleQuilt lists the finished quilt as 58 × 66 inches. Except for the binding, its yardages and cutting instructions assume fabric with 58 inches of usable width. Check the usable width—not just the fabric’s nominal width—before buying; a narrower cut may not accommodate the listed 58-inch strips as specified. The pattern states that measurements include 1/2-inch seam allowances.
Materials and cuts
The pattern’s top is made from six plush fabrics in solid colors and prints. The yardages and strip dimensions below are those listed by AllPeopleQuilt; the yardage assumptions follow its 58-inch usable-width note.

These are the pattern’s stated amounts, not a guarantee that every fabric purchase will yield the cuts: usable width and cutting layout matter. The binding is the exception to the 58-inch usable-width yardage basis; its strips are specified as 2-1/2 × 42 inches.
How to piece the plush quilt
- Cut the strips. Cut the listed plush fabrics into their specified strips, observing the pattern’s usable-width assumption.
- Arrange the top. Lay out the assorted strips in the order you want before joining them.
- Sew the strips together. Piece the top with 1/2-inch seam allowances. The pattern says to finger-press the seams in one direction. If desired, trim the outer edges to square the top.
- Layer and baste. Place the quilt top, batting and backing together, then baste the layers.
- Quilt and bind. Quilt as desired, then finish the raw edges with the binding strips.
Working with plush stretch
Plush may stretch during piecing, so it can behave differently from a stable woven quilting cotton. Quilt tester Elizabeth Beese notes, “Because the fabric has stretch, working with plush can be a different experience.” In her project, she pieced the quilt entirely on a serger and said it controlled the stretch easily. She also cut pieces a little larger than the original so she could use 1/2-inch seam allowances. Those are her project-specific choices; the pattern does not require a serger or prescribe oversized cutting for every sewist.

The pattern does not compare machines or establish a single best method for managing stretch. Follow its seam allowance and cutting dimensions if using the listed plan, and handle the plush carefully as you join the strips.

Use the pattern’s 66 × 72-inch batting specification as a coverage check against the 58 × 66-inch finished quilt. For the top fabric, confirm that each cut can be obtained at the available usable width; the 58-inch assumption is central to the strip plan. The pattern specifies yardage for backing fabrics but does not identify a particular backing layout, brand, or material type.
