Quick-as-a-Wink is a pieced place-mat project designed by Joel Dewberry. Each finished mat measures 13 × 18 inches. The AllPeopleQuilt pattern provides downloadable pattern pieces and instructions for making two mats from four cotton prints, heavy interfacing, and a cotton backing.

What is the Quick-as-a-Wink place-mat pattern?

It is a specific sewing project, not a general place-mat size or ready-made product. The publisher describes it as a way to “Showcase a quartet of fabulous fabrics with these simple-to-sew place mats.” The project page lists a finished size of 13 × 18 inches per mat. AllPeopleQuilt’s Quick-as-a-Wink project page includes the pattern pieces and construction instructions; the project is also included in the publisher’s free place-mat patterns roundup.

Materials for two place mats

The pattern’s materials list covers two mats and assumes 44/45-inch-wide, 100% cotton fabrics. Measurements include 1/4-inch seam allowances unless otherwise stated.

  • Half a yard each of four assorted light yellow prints
  • Two 13 × 18-inch rectangles of heavy interfacing
  • Cotton fabric for the backing, as directed by the project instructions
  • Quilt-basting spray

These quantities and materials are specific to this pattern. The project page does not name fabric or interfacing brands.

How the mats are assembled

  1. Download the pattern pieces. Use the project page’s diagrams and cutting instructions; it supplies the A and B triangle pieces for the four-print top.
  2. Piece the top. Assemble the A and B triangles in the four prints according to the pattern.
  3. Layer and baste. Place the pieced top with the interfacing and cotton backing. Apply quilt-basting spray to hold the layers together while you baste the edges.
  4. Finish the edges. Join the binding strips, apply the binding, and topstitch as instructed.

The project page contains the exact pattern diagrams and cutting directions; no cutting dimensions beyond the listed finished size and interfacing rectangles are specified here.
