Photopea is free to use at Photopea.com in a browser; you do not need to install anything to get started. If you want an app-like shortcut, choose More → Install Photopea when the option is available. The installed icon opens Photopea in a reduced-interface browser mode, not as a separate native desktop or mobile program.
Use Photopea in your browser
- Visit Photopea.com.
- Open and edit your image in the browser.
- Save your work to a file or export a copy before closing Photopea.
Photopea can be used for free. It also offers optional Free and Premium accounts; Premium removes advertisements and may include other benefits. Check Photopea’s Account Window for current pricing rather than relying on an old quoted price.
Install Photopea as a PWA
Installing Photopea adds a convenient icon, but it does not turn the editor into a standalone native application. Photopea’s installation tutorial says the icon starts Photopea in a special browser mode with a reduced browser interface. The browser remains necessary and determines which installation features are available.

- Open Photopea.com in a browser.
- Select More → Install Photopea if Photopea offers the option.
- If the browser displays its own install or add-to-home-screen prompt, follow the on-screen instructions.
- Launch Photopea from the new icon.
If “Install Photopea” is missing, the browser may not support the installation prompt, may not yet be ready to install the site, or may already have Photopea installed. Use the website in a normal browser tab if no install option is available. Exact prompts and behavior vary across browsers and devices.

Can you use Photopea offline?
Photopea’s learning guide says you can load the site while online, disconnect from the internet, and continue working offline. Treat this as a documented capability, not a guarantee that every browser, device, or feature will work without a connection.

- Save your document or export a copy before closing Photopea.
Photopea says files opened in the normal editor workflow are processed on your device and are not sent elsewhere. Cloud storage requires optional access, and account features involve account-related information. Local processing does not preserve unsaved work: Photopea’s privacy policy warns that unsaved work can be lost if the editor closes.
Devices and comfort
Photopea says it can run on a desktop, laptop, tablet, or phone. For a more comfortable editing experience, it recommends a large screen, a precise pointing device such as a mouse or stylus, and a keyboard. These are comfort suggestions, not requirements for using the editor.

Why is “Install Photopea” missing?
The browser may not support or be ready to offer installation, or Photopea may already be installed. You can still use Photopea by opening the website in a normal browser tab.
Does the PWA work without a browser?
No. The icon opens Photopea in a browser-controlled app mode. It is not a separate native application.
