The safest way to download Sketchbook is through the official app store for your device: the Microsoft Store for Windows, the Mac App Store for macOS, Google Play for Android, and the Apple App Store for iPhone and iPad.
Windows and macOS use the paid Sketchbook Pro editions. Android and iOS offer a free base app with optional Premium Bundle features. There is no official standalone consumer APK published by Sketchbook, Inc., so Android users should not download an alleged official APK from a mirror. Back up your artwork before uninstalling or reinstalling the app—especially on iPhone and iPad, where uninstalling can delete the app’s saved artwork.

Download Sketchbook Pro for Windows
Open Sketchbook Pro in the Microsoft Store.
The current Windows consumer edition is Sketchbook Pro, published by Sketchbook, Inc. The US Microsoft Store price checked on August 10, 2026 was $24.99 as a one-time purchase. This is a store purchase rather than a recurring consumer subscription. Your Microsoft account owns the purchase and is needed to install it on another Windows computer.

Windows requirements
- Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- x64 or ARM-based hardware.
- Processor running at 2.5 GHz or faster.
- 8 GB of RAM.
- Graphics hardware with OpenGL 2.0 support.
- Touch and pen input are supported.
Native Windows ARM support begins with Sketchbook Pro 9.2 and later. A compatible ARM processor alone is not enough for every drawing setup: a third-party pen tablet or display also needs an ARM-compatible driver. Older 3rd- or 4th-generation Graphics Media Accelerators, PowerVR Graphics Media Accelerators, and 1st- or 2nd-generation Intel HD Graphics may not support every feature. For pressure sensitivity, Windows Ink must be enabled.
Windows installation steps
- Open the official Microsoft Store listing.
- Confirm that the publisher is Sketchbook, Inc. and that the product is Sketchbook Pro.
- Select Buy or Get, depending on the store state and your account.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the purchase, if prompted.
- Select Install.
- Launch Sketchbook Pro from the Windows Start menu.
The Microsoft Store may prevent installation if your device is unsupported. A purchase made on another computer will only appear when the target computer uses the same Microsoft account.
If the Microsoft Store will not download Sketchbook
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
wsresetand press Enter. - Wait for the Microsoft Store to reopen.
- Try the Sketchbook Pro listing again.
- Check that the correct Microsoft account is active and that the computer meets the requirements.
For a payment-region error, the Windows Home Location should match the location associated with the payment method. Sketchbook’s full Microsoft Store troubleshooting guidance is available in its purchase and download documentation.
Download Sketchbook Pro for macOS
Open Sketchbook Pro in the Mac App Store.
The current Mac consumer edition is Sketchbook Pro from Sketchbook, Inc. The US Mac App Store price checked on August 10, 2026 was $24.99 one time. The normal individual-user route is the Mac App Store, not a download page offering an old Autodesk installer.
macOS requirements
- macOS 12 Monterey or later.
- Apple silicon or Intel processor at 2.4 GHz or faster.
- 8 GB of RAM.
- Graphics hardware with OpenGL 2.0 support.
- Recommended display resolution of 1290 × 768 or higher.
- A pressure-sensitive pen tablet or pen display is recommended for the intended drawing workflow.
macOS installation steps
- Open the official Mac App Store listing.
- Confirm that the app is Sketchbook Pro from Sketchbook, Inc.
- Select the price button.
- Authenticate with the Apple ID that will own the purchase.
- Select Get or the download button if it appears.
- Open Sketchbook Pro from Applications or Launchpad.
Sketchbook does offer a direct licensing program, but that is an enterprise and education exception. It is not the standard consumer download and should not be confused with a publicly distributed Mac installer.
Download Sketchbook for Android
Open Sketchbook in Google Play.
The current Android app is simply called Sketchbook. Verify that the developer is Sketchbook, Inc. before selecting Install. The official Google Play package identifier is com.adsk.sketchbook; the older-looking identifier does not make a third-party download legitimate.
Android requirements and device notes
- Android 9 or later.
- Optimized for phones and tablets.
- Supported pressure-sensitive styluses include Samsung S Pen and Wacom Pro Pen 3 on Wacom MovinkPad-series tablets.
- Peripheral drawing tablets are not supported on Android.
- Opening, saving, and recovery functions may not work correctly when the device is mirrored to an external display.
After installation, Android may request file, media, or photo permissions. Those permissions are needed when importing references or saving and accessing artwork.
Sketchbook on ChromeOS
Many Chromebooks and ChromeOS tablets can install the Android edition from Google Play. ChromeOS and Android are separate environments, however, so a fully updated Chromebook may still expose an older Android runtime. Pen pressure depends on the Chromebook hardware and compatible pen drivers, and performance varies considerably between devices.
Is there an official Sketchbook APK?
No official consumer APK download is published by Sketchbook, Inc. Install the Android app through Google Play.
Sketchbook’s download and reinstall guidance says that it does not sell or distribute the ordinary consumer app directly; official downloads and updates are handled through the platform stores. Therefore, a website offering an “official Sketchbook APK” should be treated as an unaffiliated third-party source unless Sketchbook explicitly confirms otherwise.

Some download pages list “Android APK” alongside Windows, macOS, and iOS as though all are equivalent official channels. That is misleading. A page may use APK wording for search traffic, redirect to Google Play, or host an unrelated file. Do not install a sideloaded file merely because its filename or page says Autodesk SketchBook. Store availability can also depend on your region, device compatibility, and Google Play Services; those limitations do not create an official APK source.
Download Sketchbook for iPhone and iPad
Open Sketchbook in the Apple App Store.
The iPhone and iPad app is free to download and use at its base level. The US App Store listing checked on August 10, 2026 showed a $2.99 one-time Premium Bundle. The app requires iOS or iPadOS 14 or later.

Is Sketchbook free?
It depends on the platform. The current pricing model is not a single free-or-paid answer:
| Platform | What you get | Purchase model |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | Sketchbook Pro | $24.99 US one-time consumer purchase, checked August 10, 2026 |
| macOS | Sketchbook Pro | $24.99 US one-time consumer purchase, checked August 10, 2026 |
| Android | Sketchbook base app | Free download with optional one-time Premium Bundle; regional price is shown by Google Play |
| iPhone/iPad | Sketchbook base app | Free download; US App Store showed a $2.99 one-time Premium Bundle |
Prices are storefront-specific and can change with local currency, tax, and regional pricing. The mobile Premium Bundle is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. It does not transfer automatically between Google Play and Apple’s App Store: an Android purchase cannot unlock iOS, and an Apple purchase cannot unlock Android. Desktop store purchases and mobile purchases should likewise be treated as separate platform-store transactions.
What does the Premium Bundle unlock?
The Premium Bundle is most useful when you need more control over brushes, color management, canvas setup, layers, or export. Officially listed Premium features include:
- Importing and exporting brushes.
- Creating custom brushes.
- Duplicating and organizing custom brushes.
- Additional color harmonies and gradients.
- Extracting colors from reference images.
- Importing and exporting color palettes.
- Resizing a canvas after it has been created.
- Resolution settings in pixels per inch or pixels per centimeter.
- Clipping masks.
- Additional layer adjustments.
- Layer grouping and layer-mask blend modes.
- Draw Outline.
- Lasso Fill.
- PDF export.
See the official Premium Bundle feature list and the current iOS listing for store-specific purchase information.
What Sketchbook is good for
Sketchbook is primarily a drawing and painting application, not a general-purpose photo editor. Its core tools include customizable brushes, layers and blend modes, rulers and guides, perspective tools, symmetry, predictive or stabilized strokes, color tools and palettes, and stylus pressure and tilt support. Desktop editions also support Flipbook animation and workflows involving PSD and TIFF files.
The desktop Sketchbook Pro interface is designed around keyboard-and-mouse use, pen tablets or pen displays, multiple monitors, and desktop features such as Flipbook. The mobile app uses a touch-first interface and a different tool layout. A feature available in Sketchbook Pro should not automatically be assumed to be available in the free mobile edition.
Sketchbook’s product overview and introduction to Sketchbook provide the current platform and feature distinctions.
Sketchbook, Autodesk SketchBook, and Sketchbook Pro: what changed?
Sketchbook is no longer an Autodesk download. The current product is developed by Sketchbook, Inc. The desktop editions are called Sketchbook Pro, while the Android and iOS editions are called Sketchbook.
Older Autodesk SketchBook desktop versions are separate legacy products. Autodesk no longer updates them, and an old Autodesk installation cannot be upgraded into the current Sketchbook Pro purchase. An old copy may continue to run, but it is not the supported route for a current installation.
Some users may still be able to reinstall an older Autodesk version from an Apple or Microsoft purchase history using the account that originally obtained it. That does not mean the old product is current. Autodesk-preloaded SketchBook 5.x software on some Windows tablets cannot be redownloaded after removal or a factory reset.

If you search for “Autodesk SketchBook download,” use that phrase only when looking for legacy software. For a supported release, use the current Sketchbook download hub and the official store listings above.
Does Sketchbook require an account or sync artwork?
No Sketchbook account is required. The current app does not require a Sketchbook sign-in. You will still need the relevant Microsoft, Apple, or Google account for the platform store and any purchase, but that is different from an in-app Sketchbook account.
Recommended Free Tools
Sketchbook also does not provide automatic artwork synchronization through a Sketchbook account. Mobile artwork is saved locally on the device. Export or copy it to another location before changing devices, clearing app data, or uninstalling.
File formats and moving artwork between devices
- Sketchbook TIFF: the native format for preserving Sketchbook layer data.
- PSD: generally the better choice when moving layered artwork to another image editor, although Sketchbook-specific features may not survive conversion.
- PNG and JPG: useful for flattened images and sharing.
- PDF: available as a mobile export feature with the Premium Bundle.
Do not rely on a screenshot or a flattened JPG as your only backup if you need to continue editing layers. Use the native TIFF where possible, and export a PSD when the file must travel to another image editor. Sketchbook’s guidance on sending, printing, and presenting files is available here.
Transfer artwork from Android to Android
For Android 11 or later, Sketchbook’s documented transfer method is:
- Open the Files app.
- Go to Internal Storage > Pictures > Sketchbook Gallery.
- Copy the TIFF files to cloud storage, an SD card, or a computer.
- Install Sketchbook on the new device and launch it once.
- Copy the TIFF files into the newly created Sketchbook Gallery folder.
- Open Sketchbook and go to the menu.
- Select Preferences > Check for Recoverable Images.
Use Sketchbook’s Android-to-Android transfer instructions if the folder structure or recovery screen differs on your device.

Back up artwork on iPhone or iPad
Do this before uninstalling Sketchbook. On iOS and iPadOS, uninstalling the app deletes all app data, including saved artwork, unless it can be restored from a device backup.
On Sketchbook 6.2.4 or later, use Export Mode:
- Fully close Sketchbook.
- Open iOS or iPadOS Settings.
- Go to Apps > Sketchbook.
- Turn on Export Mode.
- Relaunch Sketchbook.
- Select Export and save the backup somewhere outside the app container.
The complete mobile backup guidance is in Sketchbook’s backup documentation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What happens when you reinstall?
Do not assume that reinstalling Sketchbook is harmless. The result differs by platform:
| Platform | Expected reinstall behavior | Precaution |
|---|---|---|
| Android | Saved artwork normally remains, but brush customizations, palettes, preferences, Gallery organization, and unsaved work can be lost. | Export or copy TIFF files and back up custom brushes and palettes first. |
| iOS/iPadOS | All app data, including saved artwork, is deleted when the app is uninstalled and cannot be recovered unless restored from a device backup. | Use Export Mode before uninstalling. |
| macOS | Saved artwork should remain, along with custom brushes, palettes, and preferences. | Still keep an external backup of important work. |
| Windows | Saved artwork remains, but preferences reset to factory defaults. | Back up important files and expect to reconfigure preferences. |
These are documented platform behaviors, not a guarantee that every operating-system repair or storage failure will preserve data. The safest rule is simple: export or copy important artwork before any uninstall, factory reset, operating-system upgrade, or storage migration.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsAndroid storage migration and Gallery problems
Android 11 and later: migrate the old Autodesk folder
Android 11 changed where apps can store image data. If Sketchbook asks to migrate its files, follow this sequence:
- Select the old Autodesk folder when prompted.
- Select Use this folder.
- Select Allow when Android requests permission.
- Wait for the migration to finish.
- Do not force-stop Sketchbook during the migration.
A large Gallery can take a substantial amount of time. Sketchbook gives a 9 GB Gallery taking approximately 30 minutes as an example. If migration fails, disable Samsung DeX or external mirroring and try again. See the official Android data migration guide.

Why Android shows separate TIFF and PNG files
Android photo and file-management apps can display Sketchbook’s layered TIFF and preview PNG as separate files. Moving, renaming, or deleting either outside Sketchbook can disconnect artwork from the Sketchbook Gallery.
Do not add a .nomedia file as a workaround. Sketchbook says that this can prevent the Gallery from scanning and recovering files. If artwork is missing, stop moving files around and use the official missing-files guidance.
Recommended Free Tools
If Sketchbook crashes when Android starts it
- Restart the device and free some memory.
- On Android 11 or later, open Settings > Apps > Sketchbook.
- Find the additional Sketchbook settings.
- Use Clear Autosave if corrupted recovery data is suspected.
- Use Reset Preferences if the preferences database is corrupted.
- Relaunch Sketchbook.
Clearing autosave may remove unsaved progress on the open canvas, but it does not affect saved Gallery data. Do not clear Sketchbook’s entire app data unless your artwork is backed up. The official recovery sequence is documented under crashes on open.
Restore a Premium Bundle purchase
Android
- Open Sketchbook.
- Open the main menu.
- Go to Preferences.
- Select Restore In-App Purchases.
- Confirm that Google Play is signed in to the account that made the purchase.
If several Google accounts are active, Google Play may associate the app and purchase with different accounts. Temporarily sign out of non-purchasing accounts if necessary. Sketchbook also advises that, as a later troubleshooting step, you may clear Google Play Store and Google Play Services data—but do not clear Sketchbook’s own app data while artwork is unbacked. See Premium Bundle troubleshooting.
iPhone and iPad
- Open Sketchbook.
- Open Preferences.
- Scroll to the In-app Purchase section.
- Select Restore.
Purchases are tied to the store ecosystem. An Apple App Store Premium purchase cannot unlock Android, and an Android purchase cannot unlock iOS.
Enterprise and education downloads
For ordinary individual users, the official app stores are the correct download route. There is one important exception: Sketchbook offers a separate direct licensing program for enterprises and educational institutions.
- $24.99 per seat per year.
- Enterprise purchases require a minimum of 10 seats.
- Windows and macOS licenses are cross-platform.
- Mobile licensing is not included.
- Windows environments require Windows 11.
- Installers are downloaded from the license-management portal after purchase.
- Licenses are node-locked to an activated device.
- Linux is unsupported.
- A store purchase cannot be converted into a direct license, and a direct license cannot be converted into a store purchase.
This program is not a normal consumer APK or a general replacement for the Microsoft Store or Mac App Store versions.
Should you choose Sketchbook?
Sketchbook is a sensible choice if you want a relatively uncluttered raster drawing interface, strong brush and layer tools, rulers, symmetry, perspective aids, stylus workflows, and versions for Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS. It is especially attractive if you prefer a one-time desktop purchase instead of a recurring consumer desktop subscription, or if you want to start with a free mobile app and add advanced features later.
Its trade-offs matter too. Mobile artwork is local rather than automatically synchronized through a Sketchbook account. Purchases do not move freely between Apple and Google stores. Desktop and mobile interfaces are different, peripheral drawing tablets are not supported on Android, and some advanced mobile tools require Premium.
Alternatives by priority
- Free desktop drawing: Krita provides official Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android downloads and publishes checksums for official releases.
- Manga and comics: MediBang Paint offers desktop, iPad, iPhone, and Android editions and emphasizes manga-oriented workflows.
- Vector or infinite-canvas sketching: Concepts is available through the App Store, Google Play, and Microsoft Store, with platform documentation for iOS, Windows, Android, and ChromeOS.
- iPad-focused professional illustration: Procreate is designed for iPad, while Procreate Pocket is the iPhone product.
These are not universally better than Sketchbook. Choose based on the requirement that matters most: desktop price, free desktop access, vector versus raster drawing, comic tools, animation, file compatibility, stylus support, or cloud workflow.

The Bottom Line
Bottom line: use the official Microsoft Store listing for Windows, the Mac App Store for macOS, Google Play for Android, and the Apple App Store for iPhone and iPad. Windows and macOS require the $24.99 US Sketchbook Pro purchase; mobile downloads are free with optional Premium features. There is no official consumer APK, no required Sketchbook account, and no automatic account-based artwork sync. Export or copy your artwork before reinstalling—particularly on iOS and iPadOS.
