What is Eid al-Adha?
Eid al-Adha is one of the two most important events in the Islamic calendar; the Philippine government describes it as following Eid al-Fitr, the Feast of Breaking the Fast. The holiday commemorates Ibrahim’s devotion and obedience to Allah. It is also connected to Hajj: the Philippines’ 2026 holiday notice describes Eid al-Adha as marking the conclusion of the pilgrimage to Mecca.
When is Eid al-Adha?
The date follows the Islamic lunar calendar, so it moves through the Gregorian calendar rather than falling on the same Gregorian date every year. A date should be tied to its country or community because local authorities and practices may differ.

These announcements agreed on May 27 for Eid al-Adha in 2026, but they do not establish a universal date-setting rule. For another year or location, check the announcement of your local religious authority or community.
How is Eid al-Adha observed?
Observance varies by country and community. The University of Toronto’s 2026 employer guide says Eid al-Adha is observed for one to four days; that range should not be treated as a universal duration. The sources cited here establish the holiday’s broad connection to Ibrahim and Hajj, but not a single set of detailed practices that applies everywhere.

The 2026 dates announced for Indonesia and Saudi Arabia happened to coincide; that agreement does not mean dates are automatically identical in every place or year.
