Ein T-Shirt lässt sich mit Textilfarbe, Abbinden und etwas Geduld einfach batiken. Am zuverlässigsten gelingt es mit einem hellen, vorgewaschenen Baumwollshirt: Naturfasern nehmen Farbe besser an als reine Kunstfasern. Folge für Temperatur, Dosierung und Einwirkzeit immer der Anleitung deiner Farbe.

Was du zum Batiken brauchst
- Ein helles, vorgewaschenes T-Shirt oder anderes Textil aus Naturfasern
- Textil- oder Batikfarbe samt Fixierer, falls das Produkt einen separaten Fixierer benötigt
- Gummibänder, Schnur, Klammern oder Klebeband
- Gummihandschuhe und eine Schürze
- Eimer oder große Schüssel, Rührstab und Abdeckplane
Baumwolle ist eine verlässliche Wahl. Auch Viskose, Leinen, Hanf, Wolle und Jute können geeignet sein; helle Stoffe lassen die Farben besonders deutlich hervortreten. Reine Kunstfasern nehmen Farbe meist schlecht auf. Mischgewebe können funktionieren, wenn der Synthetikanteil begrenzt ist. C&A und der Bayerische Rundfunk empfehlen Naturfasern.

Ein T-Shirt in 15 Schritten batiken
- Textil auswählen: Nimm ein helles Baumwollshirt oder ein anderes geeignetes Naturfasertextil.
- Vorwaschen: Wasche das Kleidungsstück ohne Weichspüler. So können Rückstände, die die Farbaufnahme beeinträchtigen, entfernt werden.
- Arbeitsplatz schützen: Decke Tisch oder Boden mit einer Plane oder Zeitung ab und zieh Handschuhe sowie eine Schürze an.
- Muster planen: Entscheide dich etwa für eine Spirale, Rolle, Knoten, Falten oder einzelne Zipfel für ein Bulls-Eye-Muster.
- Stoff abbinden: Fixiere die gefalteten oder gedrehten Stellen mit Gummibändern oder Schnur. An den abgebundenen Partien dringt weniger Farbe ein; sie bleiben heller.
- Farbe ansetzen: Halte dich genau an die Packungsangaben zu Wassermenge, Temperatur und Dosierung.
- Farbreihenfolge festlegen: Bei mehreren Farben beginne mit der hellsten. Lass den Stoff trocknen, bevor du die nächste Farbe aufträgst.
- Textil färben: Tauche das ganze Shirt in die Farbe oder beträufle gezielt einzelne Bereiche. Trage dabei Handschuhe.
- Farbe einwirken lassen: Die Zeit hängt vom Produkt ab. Als Richtwert werden 30 bis 60 Minuten genannt: dm nennt 30 Minuten, C&A 30 bis 60 Minuten und der Bayerische Rundfunk 60 Minuten. Entscheidend ist die Anleitung deiner Farbe. dm, C&A und BR nennen diese Angaben.
- Stoff bewegen: Rühre gelegentlich um oder bewege das Shirt im Farbbad, damit sich die Farbe verteilt.
- Gebunden ausspülen: Spüle das Shirt unter fließendem Wasser, bis kaum noch Farbe austritt.
- Fixierbad vorbereiten: Verwende einen separaten Fixierer, wenn das Farbprodukt ihn vorsieht, und dosiere ihn nach Packungsangabe. Bei manchen Farben ist die Fixierung bereits integriert.
- Farbe fixieren: Lege das Textil in das Fixierbad. Der BR beschreibt dafür ungefähr 15 Minuten; beachte die abweichenden Vorgaben deines Produkts. BR
- Abbinde-Material entfernen: Nimm Gummis, Schnur oder Klebeband vorsichtig ab und spüle das Shirt anschließend nochmals gründlich aus.
- Trocknen und pflegen: Lass das Shirt vollständig trocknen. Wasche es zunächst mit ähnlichen Farben und bei der Temperatur, die auf dem Etikett oder der Packung angegeben ist.
Welche Batiktechnik sollst du wählen?
Spirale oder Bulls-Eye
Diese Techniken erzeugen ein gut erkennbares Zentrum. Bei der Spirale drehst du den Stoff vor dem Abbinden; für ein Bulls-Eye ziehst du einen Zipfel hoch und bindest ihn an mehreren Stellen ab.

Lockeres Wickeln oder Falten
Lockeres Wickeln ergibt weichere Übergänge und weniger klar abgegrenzte Bereiche als enges Abbinden. Je fester du den Stoff bindest, desto stärker werden die abgedeckten Partien vor Farbe geschützt.
Schüssel oder Waschmaschine
Ein Farbbad in einer Schüssel oder einem Eimer ist für ein einzelnes kleines Textil übersichtlich. Für größere Mengen kann die Waschmaschine praktisch sein; verwende sie aber nur, wenn die Produktanleitung das erlaubt, und halte dich an die angegebenen Schritte.

So vermeidest du, dass Batikfarbe abfärbt
- Spüle das gebundene Textil nach dem Färben gründlich aus, bis nur noch wenig Farbe austritt.
- Nutze einen separaten Fixierer, wenn dein Farbprodukt ihn vorsieht; manche Produkte fixieren die Farbe bereits während des Färbens.
- Wasche das Shirt nach dem vollständigen Trocknen zunächst mit ähnlichen Farben und beachte die Temperaturangabe auf Etikett oder Packung.
Spülen und Fixieren können späteres Abfärben reduzieren. Temperatur, Dosierung und Fixiermethode unterscheiden sich je nach Textilfarbe; maßgeblich sind deshalb die konkreten Packungsangaben.
