Their observations ranged from quilted clothing and appliqué to animal motifs, pictorial quilts, hand quilting and varied color palettes. They describe what stood out to them at that show—not a measured snapshot of the quilting industry today.

What quilting trends did the hosts notice at Quilt Market 2023?
The official episode notes highlight quilted and embellished clothing, animal motifs, pictorial quilts and rainbows. In the transcript, Beth Peterson adds examples that show the range of styles and techniques she encountered.
- Quilting to wear: Fully quilted coats and pants appeared alongside purchased garments embellished with stitched fabric details, including a pocket. Beth also mentions an attendee who added a quilt block to pants, and a thin scarf decorated with appliqué circles.
- Pictorial and animal designs: Cats and dogs were among the animal motifs. Beth also noticed strawberries, snowman faces, eggs, flowers and people. These images appeared alongside more conventional geometric block designs.
- Handwork: Hand quilting and big-stitch quilting were visible in several places. Beth described handwork as a slower, handmade finish and said she finds it relaxing; that is her personal perspective, not a general health claim.
- Different fabric substrates: Beth noticed fabric companies showing designs on materials beyond cotton, including rayon and knits. This was an observation from the show, not a comprehensive survey of available fabrics.
The transcript also mentions custom quilting on display quilts. Together, the examples suggest the hosts saw both familiar block-based work and projects that used imagery, clothing and visible handwork in different ways.

The hosts’ color observations covered several directions rather than one dominant palette:

- Bright rainbow quilts.
- Small floral prints the hosts associated with cottagecore.
- Low-volume prints with a little more color than expected.
- Muted, earthy shades, including mustard, sage green, mauve and dusty purple.
- Pink appearing in collections where the hosts did not expect to see it.
These are impressions from the show floor in late October 2023, not rankings or evidence that any palette was more popular across the market.

Episode 599 is a qualitative account of what Peterson and Brunnette noticed at Quilt Market in Houston at the end of October 2023. It is useful for a sense of the projects, techniques and prints that caught their attention, but it is not a formal survey or evidence of current 2026 trends.
