The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Laurent Grasso Special Edition, reference 104005, pairs a midnight-blue titanium watch with an iridescent cloud printed on its dial. Bulgari Japan announced the 200-piece edition on November 12, 2024, listing a Japan launch price of ¥3,168,000 including tax. Its defining contrast is between the watch’s restrained, monochrome finish and the cloud’s shifting metallic color.

Reference 104005 is an automatic Octo Finissimo made in blue-PVD titanium and created with French artist Laurent Grasso. Bulgari Japan says the collaboration followed a conversation between Grasso and Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani, Bulgari’s Watch Product Creation Executive Director. Grasso’s work explores intangible subjects through video, photography, sculpture and installations; clouds are a recurring motif in that work. The watch brings that imagery onto the dial. Bulgari Japan’s November 2024 announcement identifies the collaborators and the edition.
Bulgari says the Octo Finissimo was introduced in 2014 and connects its octagonal form to the ceiling motif of Rome’s Basilica of Maxentius. That is the brand’s account of the collection’s design context; the Grasso edition is presented as a new interpretation of its monochrome aesthetic.

What is the blue cloud on the dial?
The cloud is screen-printed in metallic pigments on a brass dial. Its iridescence supplies the watch’s principal color variation: the case, bracelet, hands and dial remain within a midnight-blue palette, while the cloud is intended to catch light in changing colors. Bulgari’s announcement describes the surrounding blue finish as matte and even.
Grasso said he imagined a uniquely iridescent cloud with a magical form. In the announcement, he describes light diffracted by floating particles and countless frozen water droplets as the inspiration for the cloud’s colors, and says he explored how to recreate the phenomenon on the dial through discussion with Buonamassa Stigliani. This is the artist’s explanation of the image, rather than a claim that the dial reproduces a specific meteorological event.

How is reference 104005 built?
Bulgari specifies a 40 mm case with a 5.0 mm thickness, made from sandblasted titanium with blue PVD coating. The integrated bracelet is also blue-PVD titanium. The crown is DLC titanium with a black ceramic insert, and the bracelet closes with a DLC titanium folding buckle. A transparent caseback is personalized with the cloud and Grasso’s signature.

Bulgari Japan’s November 12, 2024 announcement stated a worldwide edition of 200 pieces and a Japan launch price of ¥3,168,000 including tax.
