You can find a chart for each month in Plaid’s Bucilla collection, or follow a pattern-a-month release that unfolds over the year. These options are different: Plaid lists twelve monthly designs together, while some other sources offer a limited-time monthly chart or a larger project released in installments. Check that each download is still available and read its reuse terms before sharing a pattern or selling finished work.
Download a chart for each month
Plaid’s Bucilla collection is the most direct match if you want twelve monthly cross-stitch patterns in one place. The October 27, 2023 article lists a mini design for every month, January through December, and credits the collection to the Bucilla team. Its seasonal themes include winter, Valentine’s Day, Easter, summer, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Choose a format that fits your stitching plans
| Source | What it offers | Timing and project details |
|---|---|---|
| Plaid / Bucilla | Twelve mini patterns, one for each month | Listed together in an article dated October 27, 2023; check each linked download’s current availability. |
| One Point Mind 2026 Mystery Sampler SAL | A free stitch-along released in monthly parts from January through December 2026 | One large 253 × 353-stitch project, not twelve small standalone motifs. The page says beginners may find it challenging; it gives an example finished size of 18.1 × 25.1 inches on 14-count Aida. |
| Stoney Creek Pattern of the Month | A new monthly pattern | The new pattern is free during its first month; older charts are shown at a price. The page notes shipping charges for the offer shown, so check the current listing and any charges. |
| Maria Diaz Designs | A monthly free chart and bonus charts | Read the designer’s terms: the page limits charts to personal use and prohibits reproducing them for sale or profit or sharing or posting the patterns online. |
For a collection you can browse beyond the monthly format, Stitch My Life’s free PDF page lists seasonal designs. It describes PDFs with color and black-and-white symbol charts, a DMC thread key and instructions.
#1 Best Overall
Check what “free” means before you start
Some free downloads are a straightforward chart; others are tied to an offer window or come with optional supplies. For example, DMC’s US advent calendar page offers a free pattern-only download for 24 festive designs and separately offers related thread. It says the project’s water-soluble guide can be used on any fabric type. The number of designs makes this a seasonal project rather than a set of one-chart-per-month motifs.
DMC’s pattern catalog explains that users can add pre-calculated thread shades and quantities or choose pattern-only to print at home. Treat those as options for the DMC catalog, not a requirement for other designers’ charts. For any pattern, use its own materials key to choose thread and fabric; the 14-count Aida example for One Point Mind’s sampler does not establish the right fabric for every design.

- Suitable for knitting and crochet
- Made out of good quality paper

Also distinguish a project calendar from a pattern collection. Fat Quarter Shop’s free 2026 monthly PDF calendar is a twelve-page calendar for scheduling stitching projects, not twelve cross-stitch charts.
Quick Recap
Best Value
Read the chart’s terms and plan your supplies
- Verify the current offer. A source may change or remove a free download, and a first-month-free chart may cost money later. Check the listing when you download it; for Stoney Creek, check any shipping charge as well.
- Use the chart’s own materials key. Match thread shades and quantities to the designer’s key, and follow its fabric guidance. Where a chart offers supplies separately, pattern-only may be an option, as DMC describes for its catalog.
- Keep the pattern file’s use separate from the finished project. Terms vary by designer. Maria Diaz Designs explicitly limits its charts to personal use and bars sharing or posting the pattern online and reproducing it for sale or profit. Do not assume that restriction applies to every source—or that another chart has no restrictions. Read the terms attached to the specific download.
- Link to the original chart. Do not repost or redistribute a chart file unless its creator’s terms allow it. If you plan to sell finished work, check the designer’s terms first.
