Find free summer backgrounds on Pexels or Pixabay. Browse beach and ocean scenes, flowers and greenery, sunny skies, or seasonal fruit patterns; then choose an image that fits your screen and check the site’s license before using it.
Choose a summer scene that suits your screen
- Beach and ocean: Look for broad horizons and open water for a calm desktop, or a close-up wave or shoreline for a phone lock screen.
- Flowers and greenery: Floral details and leafy scenes bring color without requiring a literal beach view.
- Sunny skies: A sky-heavy landscape can leave open space for desktop icons or phone text.
- Fruit and seasonal patterns: Repeating motifs can work well when you want a brighter, more graphic background.
These are search directions rather than fixed collections; available images and filters can change. Pexels’ wallpaper browsing includes phone, tablet, and desktop options, along with filters for orientation and resolution. Its guide also supports browsing by mood, color, and scene. Browse Pexels wallpapers.
Find and download an image that fits
- Choose the device first. Browse the phone, tablet, or desktop wallpaper category that matches where you will use the image.
- Filter by orientation and resolution. Desktop screens commonly use landscape images; phones generally suit portrait images. Pexels lists 1920×1080 for desktop Full HD and 3840×2160 for 4K as recommendations, not universal device dimensions. See Pexels’ device guidance.
- Check the composition at a glance. Leave clear space where icons, widgets, or text will sit. A beautiful image may be distracting if its main subject lands under your icons.
- Select a suitable download size. Choose the largest available size that suits your screen and storage; a file smaller than the display may look soft, while a much larger one takes more space.
- Review the license for your intended use. Personal wallpaper use is different from reposting, selling, or incorporating an image into a commercial design.
Pexels offers searchable summer imagery in addition to its wallpaper browsing. Search Pexels for summer backgrounds. Pixabay is another library to browse; its license is separate from Pexels’. Read Pixabay’s license summary.

Pixabay’s summary likewise allows free use, modification, and use without required attribution. Its terms restrict standalone redistribution: simple cropping, resizing, or applying filters does not turn an image into a substantially different work for this purpose. Pixabay also says a digitally printed image sold as a canvas or wallpaper is not allowed without significant changes. Read Pixabay’s terms and FAQ.
For either library, downloading a background does not grant every possible right in the image. A recognizable person, logo, or brand may involve additional rights or restrictions. Pixabay places responsibility on the user to check whether additional permissions are needed. For unusual commercial or branded uses, read the current full terms and consider the rights attached to the specific image; these summaries are not legal advice. Pixabay license summary.

Can you share or sell a downloaded wallpaper?
Do not repost a library image as a standalone wallpaper download. Pexels bars redistribution on other stock-photo and wallpaper platforms; Pixabay’s terms also restrict standalone redistribution, including wallpaper files. Adding a basic crop, resize, or filter does not remove that restriction under Pixabay’s terms. Use the image as a background in a larger, meaningfully distinct project only where the applicable license and any third-party rights allow it.
