Free Valentine PNGs are available from image libraries such as Wikimedia Commons, Openclipart, and Pixabay, but a search tag or thumbnail does not guarantee that a particular download is a transparent PNG. Open the individual file page, check the actual file and its background, then review its license before using it in a card, invitation, craft, or social graphic.

Valentine’s Day (Hearts).png is an 864 × 1,060 PNG by Carulmare, described as an edited photograph of leaves. Its file page records a CC BY 3.0 license. The listing establishes the file format and dimensions, but does not establish that its background is transparent; inspect the file before choosing it for a design that needs transparency.

Hearts for Valentine’s Day offers SVG and PNG bitmap downloads in several sizes. The available evidence does not establish the license terms for this specific listing, so check its current asset page before reuse.

Two Openclipart-origin works hosted on Commons have different, clearly recorded license information: Valentine’s Day – Heart in a Box.svg and Valentine love letter.svg are marked CC0. The Commons records for each file should be checked before use.

Pixabay’s Valentine hearts-and-candy vector listing, by Popcorn_Pix and published February 12, 2020, offers PNG and SVG media and lists dimensions of 1,639 × 1,920 pixels. The listing says the download is free under the Pixabay Content License. Confirm the current terms and inspect the selected version to ensure its format and background suit your project.

Pixabay’s heart PNG search includes Valentine and transparent-background tags, making it useful for discovering candidates. Catalog tags and search results are not proof that each file is a transparent PNG, and result counts can change.

- Open the individual asset page. Do not rely only on a search thumbnail or a catalog tag.
- Confirm the downloadable format. If you need PNG, make sure the selected download is PNG. SVG can be a useful alternative if your design software supports it; Openclipart and the cited Pixabay listing offer both formats.
- Check the actual background. Inspect the downloaded file in an image editor or viewer that can show transparency, or examine its alpha channel. A checkerboard preview or a “transparent” label alone is not enough to establish that the saved asset has transparent pixels.
- Match dimensions to the output. Consider the size at which the artwork will appear and whether its pixel dimensions are sufficient. The Commons and Pixabay examples above have different stated dimensions; those measurements apply only to those specific files.
- Read the file’s license and use conditions. A free download does not automatically mean unrestricted commercial reuse. Check the asset’s current license record and follow any attribution or other terms.
- Keep attribution details when required. Record the creator and source page. For CC BY 3.0 material, provide appropriate credit, link to the license, and indicate changes when relevant.
Understand the license before using an image
The cited examples do not all carry the same terms. The Commons heart PNG is listed under CC BY 3.0, which requires appropriate credit, a license link, and an indication of changes when relevant. The two cited Commons files originating from Openclipart are marked CC0; the CC0 deed allows copying, modification, distribution, and commercial use without permission to the extent allowed by law. The Pixabay listing uses the Pixabay Content License. Check each asset’s page for its applicable terms rather than assuming that one library’s rules apply to another file.

For a Valentine card, invitation, painting reference, or social post, compare the artwork’s subject and style alongside its file properties. A heart illustration may suit a different layout than a photograph of leaves or a hearts-and-candy graphic. Check transparency, dimensions, available formats, and license conditions together: a visually suitable thumbnail is not useful if the downloaded background or reuse terms do not fit the finished design.
