Fujifilm announced the X-E5 on June 12, 2025: a rangefinder-style X Series mirrorless camera built around a 40.2MP APS-C sensor, five-axis in-body image stabilization and a physical dial for Film Simulation settings. Its US launch MSRP was $1,699.95 body-only or $1,899.95 with the XF23mmF2.8 R WR lens; those are historical launch prices, not current retail prices.
What the Fujifilm X-E5 is
The X-E5 is an interchangeable-lens APS-C mirrorless camera with Fujifilm’s rangefinder-style design. Fujifilm announced it on June 12, 2025, in black and silver. The company’s North American announcement said the camera would arrive in late summer 2025; Fujifilm’s global announcement gave an August 2025 launch window. Those dates describe the original rollout, not current stock or availability.
Recommended Free Tools
Fujifilm describes the body as approximately 445g with battery and memory card. The central specification is a 40.2MP back-illuminated X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor paired with the X-Processor 5. The body size and weight may appeal to photographers seeking a high-resolution X-mount camera in a compact format, though they do not establish how it will feel in every hand or with every lens.
Fujifilm X-E5 launch prices
Fujifilm North America listed these manufacturer’s suggested retail prices at the June 12, 2025 announcement. They are launch MSRPs, not verified October 2026 selling prices.
#1 Best Overall
- Get the stunning looks of the iconic FUJIFILM X100VI with the added creative flexibility of interchangeable lenses. A similar size and weight to the popular fixed lens X100VI, FUJIFILM X-E5 delivers the same analog controls and a film-camera-inspired user experience but gives you the option to switch lenses to suit your creative needs. X-E5 is compatible with over 40 X Mount optics and accessories, including the all-new XF23mmF2.8 R WR, so the perfect image is always within reach.
- FUJIFILM X-E5 echoes the timeless style of rangefinder film cameras and features a stunning machined aluminum top-plate. Aesthetically beautiful, the top-plate exudes quality and durability thanks to its premium look and feel as well as delivering a precise, angular design. X-E5 offers analog controls for quick, easy access to core functions, while additional features such as the Bluetooth connectivity button - placed on the base like a film rewind button - enhance the camera’s nostalgic feel.
- A first for X Series cameras, FUJIFILM X-E5 features a customizable Film Simulation dial. Neatly placed under the aluminum top-plate with a circular window providing an easy view of the active mode, the dial provides fast access to Fujifilm’s unique Film Simulation modes that deliver stunning results straight out of camera. Additionally, the dial has three customizable settings, which give users the option to create and save their own recipes for instant recall in the field.
- Sometimes the best images are made when lighting is low and, thanks to the in-body image stabilization (IBIS) on FUJIFILM X-E5, you’ll be able to tackle these situations in complete confidence. Providing up to seven stops of benefit at the center of the frame and six stops at the edges, the IBIS system features a new algorithm and upgraded gyro sensor to deliver an improved performance that helps keep crucial images free from camera shake.
- Image quality is assured with FUJIFILM X-E5 thanks to the latest 40.2-megapixel X-Trans 5 HR sensor and X-Processor 5 imaging engine. This combination brings additional functionality, including a lower base ISO of 125 and deep learning AI-powered subject detection AF across a broader range of subjects. The higher resolution also unlocks a two-step digital teleconverter feature, which crops into the sensor to provide a 1.4x or 2x zoom, giving further in camera flexibility.

The kit lens is an X-mount 23mm lens with a 35mm-equivalent field of view and a stated weight of 90g. The kit can simplify getting started with a compact everyday perspective; body-only may make more sense if you already own a compatible Fujifilm XF or XC lens. Sensor, stabilization and still photography
40.2MP APS-C sensor
The 40.2MP sensor offers substantial resolution for cropping or making detailed images, while larger files can require more storage and processing capacity. Fujifilm identifies it as a back-illuminated X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor and pairs it with the X-Processor 5.

Five-axis in-body image stabilization
Fujifilm rates the X-E5’s IBIS at up to 7.0 stops at the center and 6.0 stops at the periphery. Those figures are based on CIPA 2024 standards, using yaw, pitch and roll correction with the XF35mmF1.4 R lens. They are a qualified test rating, not a guarantee of the same result with every lens or in every shooting situation.
Film Simulation controls and viewing options
Fujifilm lists 20 Film Simulation modes for the X-E5, including REALA ACE. Its physical Film Simulation dial includes three custom positions—FS1, FS2 and FS3—for saved recipes, putting frequently used looks within reach without relying solely on menus.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Video recording and card slot
Fujifilm lists in-camera recording to SD at up to 6.2K/30p in 4:2:2 10-bit, as well as 4K/60p and 1080/240p recording options. The technical specifications list one UHS-II-compliant SD card slot. Because suitable card performance depends on the recording mode and card compatibility, check Fujifilm’s specifications and card guidance for the mode you intend to use rather than treating one card speed or capacity as universally required.
Practical kit considerations
- Lens: The XF23mmF2.8 R WR bundled lens provides a 35mm-equivalent field of view. Fujifilm XF and XC lenses are designed for the X mount.
- Spare power: The manual lists the NP-W126S as an additional battery and the BC-W126S as a compatible charger.
- Storage: The body has a single UHS-II-compliant SD slot. Match a card to the video or stills settings you plan to use and check compatibility.
Fujifilm also says the X-E5 works with XApp for image transfer and remote operation, supports native Frame.io Camera to Cloud, and can connect directly to selected instax Link printers. These options may matter if you already use those services or devices, but they are not necessary to understand the camera’s core specification.
