The Go Nuts project pairs a small felt acorn pincushion with a leaf-shaped needle book. The pincushion finishes at 2½ × 4¾ inches, and the needle book at 3½ × 4½ inches. It is primarily hand-sewn, with a machine-sewn center seam for the needle-book pages. The project page by American Patchwork & Quilting credits designer Lesley Chaisson of Berry Birdy Designs and links to a downloadable pattern.

How to transfer and cut the felt shapes
- Trace the pattern shapes onto freezer paper.
- Place the paper shiny-side down on the felt and press it with a hot, dry iron.
- Let the felt cool, then cut on the drawn lines and peel off the freezer paper.
Craft felt may be polyester, wool, or a blend. The project instructions warn: “If you use polyester felt, be careful when pressing with a hot iron; it can melt the fibers.” Use care when pressing, and check the felt’s fiber content if you are unsure how it will respond to heat.

- Roll the dark brown felt strip into a stem and stitch it in place.
How to make the felt needle book
- Layer the small gold leaf over the larger tan leaf. Position both on one dark brown body rectangle.
- Tack-stitch around the small leaf through the layers, including one piece of hook-and-loop tape.
- Place the front on the second dark brown body rectangle and blanket-stitch around the outer edge.
- Center the two tan page rectangles and machine-stitch them together along a vertical centerline.
- Fold the book and hand-stitch the remaining hook-and-loop piece beneath the stem end to make the closure.
