Happy 80th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia. Indonesia marked 80 years of independence on 17 August 2025, with the state Proclamation ceremony held at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta. The official theme was “Bersatu Berdaulat, Rakyat Sejahtera, Indonesia Maju,” or “United, Sovereign, Prosperous People, Advanced Indonesia.”
What the anniversary theme and logo represented
The Ministry of State Secretariat announced the theme and official logo on 23 July 2025, launching the anniversary activity series. Its English translation, published by BPS-Statistics Indonesia, is “United, Sovereign, Prosperous People, Advanced Indonesia.”
The logo joined the numerals 8 and 0 in an infinity-like form. President Prabowo Subianto described it as “bentuk angka 8 dan 0 yang saling terhubung tanpa ujung, tidak terputus, infinity” — numbers 8 and 0 connected without end or interruption. He presented unity as the foundation for sovereignty, public welfare and progress. Ministry of State Secretariat: launch of the 80th-anniversary theme and logo.
How the government framed the commemoration
In announcing the August program, Deputy Minister of State Secretariat Juri Ardiantoro said the celebration was not only a time to remember independence, but also a moment to sustain the collective spirit of struggle and sacrifice so the nation could continue to grow prosperous and advanced. The Ministry’s 1 August 2025 preview listed a national prayer, official ceremonies, a procession carrying the flag and Proclamation text, a public event at Monas and a Merdeka Run. These were plans announced ahead of the anniversary. Ministry of State Secretariat: announced anniversary program.
