Which Holly Jolly Christmas Quilt is this?
This is the American Patchwork & Quilting project published July 9, 2018. Its design was inspired by “Line It Up” by Stephanie Soebbing of Quilt Addicts Anonymous. The sample uses Hoffman California Fabrics’ Cardinal Carols and Poinsettia Song collections, but the project source does not establish whether those collections are currently available. The title is shared by unrelated patterns: Spotlight New Zealand describes an easy project built around a holiday fabric panel, while Designs by JuJu offers an in-the-hoop embroidery project featuring holiday motifs. Neither is the 64-block foundation-pieced throw covered here.
Finished size and fabric requirements
The quilt finishes at 44.5 inches square. Each of its 64 blocks finishes at 5.5 inches square; before seams are sewn, each block is trimmed to 6 inches square. The blocks use assorted green, white and cream, black, and red prints.

Choose a foundation material
Each block is foundation-pieced, so prepare 64 full-scale foundations. The publisher allows lightweight copy paper, tracing paper, or another suitable foundation material; specialty foundation paper is optional. It does not rank the options.

Whichever material you use, preserve the template’s scale. Check its printed 1-inch guide before making the foundations; a scaled printout can change block dimensions and disrupt the intended layout.
How to assemble the quilt
- Prepare the foundations. Print or trace the pattern at full scale and verify the 1-inch guide. Make 64 foundations.
- Foundation-piece each block. Sew the fabric pieces to the numbered positions on each foundation, using the pattern’s order and the specified color assortment.
- Trim the blocks. Trim each completed block to 6 inches square, including seam allowances. After assembly, each block finishes at 5.5 inches square.
- Arrange the quilt top. Lay out all 64 blocks in eight rows, checking the distribution of colors and prints before joining them.
- Sew the rows and join the top. Stitch the blocks into rows, then sew the rows together to complete the quilt top.
- Quilt and bind. Layer the top with batting and backing, baste the layers, quilt as desired, and finish the edges with the binding fabric.
Remove the paper carefully
After sewing a block, remove its foundation gently. The pattern directs quilters to begin with position 4 and work backward through the numbered positions. Reverse-order removal helps avoid pulling against the seams; take care not to stretch or distort the pieced block as you work.
