Its account offers a useful example of artist-focused product work, but it is a dated profile—not confirmation of Liu’s current role or proof that digital tools guarantee artistic success.

The IBTimes Singapore profile, published December 1, 2022, describes Liu as a technology professional whose career included work related to music and artist-facing products. It says he worked on marketing and analytics products at Treasure Data before moving to Spotify, where his work included Spotify for Artists.

What was Zuiyan, and how did it approach Beijing Opera?
The profile says Liu and two friends developed Zuiyan, a mobile app inspired by Liu’s grandmother’s love of Beijing Opera and her concern that younger people were not connecting with the art form. Rather than relying on a conventional introduction, the project used cartoon illustrations, audio, and augmented reality to present the opera and invite audience engagement.

The profile reports that Zuiyan placed first in a competition with 423 teams and received 20,000 downloads in its first three months. These figures are reported by IBTimes Singapore; the competition organizer’s records and original download analytics were not independently available in the cited sources.
The project’s broader lesson is about presentation: a cultural form can be introduced through formats and interactions that feel approachable to a new audience. That does not mean an app alone can resolve the challenges of sustaining interest in a traditional art form. Zuiyan is an example of an attempt to bridge that gap, not evidence that the approach works for every audience or project.

How can artists connect with new audiences?
Zuiyan and Spotify for Artists point to different parts of the same challenge. Zuiyan, as described in the profile, rethought how an audience might encounter Beijing Opera. Spotify for Artists offers musicians tools to present releases, promote them, and learn about listener engagement on a music platform.
For an artist considering digital tools, the useful question is not simply whether a feature exists, but what audience need it serves. A format that makes an unfamiliar tradition easier to explore addresses a different need from analytics that help an artist understand existing listeners. A promotional campaign may increase visibility, but visibility alone is not the same as lasting attention, meaningful engagement, or income.

Do artist tools guarantee success?
No. The sources describe a project and the functions of a platform; they do not show that a particular tool caused commercial or artistic success.
