Canva does not document a general DPI-entry control for JPG or PNG exports. For print, Canva documents PDF Print as its 300 dpi option; for raster files, use suitable source images and Canva’s size and quality controls to create enough pixels for the intended output. If a destination requires a specific DPI metadata tag in a JPG or PNG, verify the file with software that supports that metadata.
DPI, PPI, pixels, and print quality
People often use “DPI” to mean either the amount of image detail available for printing or the resolution value recorded in a file’s metadata. These are different concerns. Canva’s official materials describe export format, size, quality, and PDF resolution, but do not document a general DPI metadata field for JPG or PNG exports.
Changing a metadata value does not create additional image detail. A low-resolution source image can still look blurry after export, including in a PDF Print file.

Can you change DPI directly in Canva?
Canva’s documented JPG and PNG download controls include size or quality settings, but the official materials reviewed do not document a general control for entering an exact DPI metadata value for those formats. Exact menu labels and available controls can vary by device, design, account plan, and Canva updates.
Canva documents two PDF resolution specifications: PDF Standard at 96 dpi and PDF Print at 300 dpi. Canva describes PDF Print as its professional print-quality option; this does not guarantee that every placed raster image contains enough source detail. See Canva’s print-versus-web guidance.

How to prepare a design for print in Canva
- Check the printer’s requirements, including accepted file formats, finished dimensions, bleed, crop marks, and color profile.
- If the printer accepts PDF, choose PDF Print for print-oriented work.
- Use high-resolution source images. Canva warns that a low-quality uploaded image can remain blurry in a PDF Print export.
- Use the highest suitable size and quality settings available when exporting JPG or PNG, and confirm the destination accepts that format.
- Set up margins, bleed, and crop marks according to the printer’s instructions. Keep essential text and logos within the safe area, and extend full-bleed backgrounds beyond the cut edge when required.
- Check the exported file and confirm it meets the recipient’s specifications.
Canva says its rulers show the canvas dimensions and do not change when the design is scaled to fit a print product in the Print panel. Its print guidance covers preparing designs for print.
Which Canva export should you use?

What if a JPG or PNG must have an exact DPI value?
If the receiving service checks a raster file’s resolution metadata, use software that explicitly supports that setting, save a copy, and verify both the saved metadata and pixel dimensions. The official Canva sources reviewed do not establish a Canva control for setting an exact JPG or PNG DPI tag, and this research did not verify a particular external editor’s current workflow.
Changing a metadata value does not restore detail that was absent from the original image. Check the receiving service’s accepted value and requirements rather than relying on a generic resolution target.

Why can a Canva export look blurry?
- The source image is low resolution. A higher export setting cannot restore missing source detail.
- The image is being used at a size that exceeds its useful detail. Ask the printer or recipient about its requirements and check the image at the intended output size.
- The design is scaled to fit a print product. Canva says this scaling does not change the canvas dimensions shown by the rulers.
- The export format or quality is unsuitable. Check the destination’s requirements and use the highest suitable size and quality settings available.
Do you need Canva Pro?
Not necessarily. Some download controls and features are available only to certain paid, education, or nonprofit plans, but eligibility depends on the feature and account. Check Canva’s current plan terms and the controls available in your account rather than assuming a paid plan is required.

Does Canva PDF Print export at 300 dpi?
