To create an image with Bing Image Creator, go to bing.com/create, sign in with a personal Microsoft account, describe the image, choose a model if the option appears, and select Create. You can refine the prompt and use the result controls to save, download, or share an image. The basic service is free, but fast-generation and prompt limits apply.
What you need before you start
- A browser or the Bing mobile app, plus an internet connection.
- A personal Microsoft account. Microsoft says work or school accounts using Microsoft Entra ID are not supported.
- A prompt describing the image you want.
Microsoft says Bing Image Creator is available globally except in Russia and China; availability and account requirements can change. Check Microsoft’s Bing Image Creator page for current details. Image Creator generates new images from instructions; it is different from Bing image search, which finds existing images. It is also distinct from the broader Microsoft Designer workspace, though Microsoft experiences and naming can overlap.

How to create an image on a computer
- Open Image Creator. Go to bing.com/create, or use the Try now control on Microsoft’s Image Creator page.
- Sign in. Select Sign in to Create and use a personal Microsoft account. If you do not have one, create an account through Microsoft.
- Write a prompt. Describe the image, not just the subject. For example, replace “astronaut” with:
A close-up cinematic portrait of an astronaut in a glowing blue plasma suit, standing inside a spacecraft cockpit, galaxy visible through the window, realistic film photography, dramatic rim lighting, sharp details.
- Choose a model if the selector is available. The choices and labels can differ by account, region, rollout, and workflow. If there is no selector, use the default.
- Select Create. Wait for the results. Time can vary with the model, generation speed, service demand, and account state.
- Inspect the results. Check faces, hands, object counts, text, signs, logos, composition, and whether the image follows the requested action and setting. Generated details can be imperfect, especially in complex scenes.
- Refine if needed. Change one or two prompt details at a time—for example, clarify the camera angle or background—then generate again.
- Save the result. Open the preferred image and use the download, save, or share controls shown in the current interface. Button names and placement may change. Keeping the prompt with the downloaded image can make later revisions easier.
How to create an image on a phone
- Open the Bing mobile app and find the Bing Image Creator mini-app.
- Choose Sign in & Create and sign in with a personal Microsoft account.
- Enter a prompt, choose a model if one is offered, and tap Create.
- Open a result to review it and use the available save, download, share, or other actions.
The mobile interface may not match the desktop layout exactly, and available controls can vary.

How to write a stronger prompt
A useful starting formula is image type + subject + action + setting + composition + style + mood + lighting + important details. You do not need every element every time; include the ones that matter most.
- Image type: photograph, watercolor, poster, product mockup, icon, or illustration.
- Subject and action: say who or what is pictured and what it is doing.
- Setting: specify the location or background.
- Composition: request a close-up, overhead view, wide shot, centered subject, or symmetry.
- Style, mood, and lighting: name a visual medium and atmosphere, such as a charcoal drawing with soft window light or a joyful screen print in bright colors.
- Constraints: give a palette, material, era, or number of subjects when important.
For example, “a bowl of ramen” leaves the scene open. A more directed prompt is:

Other useful refinements:
- Vague: “A dog.” Clearer: “A small golden retriever puppy sitting beside a red canoe on a misty mountain lake.”
- Vague: “Modern art.” Clearer: “Minimalist geometric poster, flat primary colors, clean vector shapes, white background.”
- Vague: “Portrait.” Clearer: “Head-and-shoulders studio portrait, soft window light from the left, neutral gray background, 85mm lens look.”
Microsoft suggests using descriptive details and style terms; examples include stencil art, crayon, chalk, etching, oil painting, ballpoint pen, colored pencil, watercolor, pastel, woodcut, charcoal, screen print, photocollage, and storybook illustration. Avoid piling on contradictory styles: a long list of competing directions can make the result less coherent. Text within an image may be misspelled or distorted, so inspect signs and labels rather than assuming they will be correct.

Which model should you choose?
Microsoft currently lists MAI-Image-1, DALL-E 3, and GPT-4o. These are use-case distinctions from Microsoft, not a guarantee that one model is objectively best. You may not see all of them. Microsoft’s page has rendered the MAI name inconsistently in some places; follow the spelling shown in your selector.

How to edit an uploaded image
- Choose the image-upload or image-input control, if available, and select an image you have permission to use.
- Describe the change you want, such as removing clutter, changing the setting, reworking colors, or turning a photo into an illustration.
- Generate and inspect the result for changes to people, objects, text, proportions, or composition.
Microsoft says uploaded-image editing uses GPT-4o; DALL-E 3 and MAI-Image-1 cannot be selected for that workflow. Treat this as generative editing, not pixel-perfect retouching: the result may alter details beyond the requested change.

Can you animate a creation?
Microsoft describes an Animate image option that can turn a creation into a short video. It is optional and may not appear for every account or rollout. If the control is available, open a finished image and follow the on-screen animation steps.
Limits, speed, and access problems
Microsoft currently states that users receive 15 free fast image creations per day and can submit up to 200 prompts per 24-hour period. These are different limits: a prompt limit is not a promise of 200 images, and DALL-E 3 may return multiple images while counting the prompt as one creation. Microsoft says both limits replenish the next day. These published figures can change.

After the fast creations are used, Microsoft says you can continue at standard speed or use Microsoft Rewards points for faster creation, subject to Rewards availability and account eligibility. The basic service is free, but that does not mean unlimited fast generation.
If you cannot create an image, try this order:
- Confirm that you are on the official bing.com/create page.
- Check which account is signed in. If it is a work or school account, sign out and try a personal Microsoft account.
- Check whether the service is available in your location.
- If fast creations are exhausted, choose standard-speed generation if offered.
- If you may have reached the prompt ceiling, wait for the limit to replenish instead of repeatedly submitting prompts.
- Refresh the page or try again later if the service appears temporarily unavailable; you can also try a supported browser or the Bing mobile app.
Microsoft says Image Creator supports more than 100 languages and points users to Microsoft Translator for the full list. If a prompt is not working as expected, try a clearer or simpler description.
Rights and responsible use
Upload only images you have permission to use. Do not assume a generated image is automatically cleared for commercial use or that a recognizable person, logo, or brand will be reproduced accurately or permitted. Before publishing or selling an image, check the current Microsoft consumer terms and applicable copyright, trademark, publicity-rights, privacy, and platform rules. Microsoft’s terms require lawful use and restrict infringement of others’ rights; the applicable terms may depend on the service and use.
