Choose a Remy crochet pattern

An Etsy listing in the cited examples gives an approximate finished height of 18 cm, compared with the Ravelry pattern’s approximately 23 cm. Treat these as pattern-specific estimates: yarn, hook, and crochet tension affect the finished size. Check the listing or pattern itself for its current materials, terms, and availability.

Gather materials and prepare
Use the supply list for your chosen pattern rather than treating the options as interchangeable. Hook size is part of the pattern’s gauge and construction: the examples use 2.2 mm, 2.5 mm, or 3.0 mm hooks. A 2.5 mm hook is appropriate only if it matches the pattern and yarn you selected.
- Yarn in the colors and weight specified by the pattern.
- The specified crochet hook.
- Fiberfill stuffing.
- A yarn or sewing needle and scissors for assembly and finishing.
- 8 mm safety eyes if your selected pattern calls for them.
- Pins for holding parts in place while sewing, if useful for your pattern.
Before starting, review the pattern’s abbreviations and whether it uses continuous rounds or joined rounds. The Lanitas Del Rey tutorial defines MR as magic ring, sc as single crochet, hdc as half double crochet, sl st as slip stitch, ch as chain, inc as increase, and dec as decrease.

How to crochet Remy
- Choose one pattern and keep its materials together. Use its hook, yarn, stitch counts, and assembly directions. Do not transfer round counts or eye placement from another design.
- Review the basic stitches. Make sure you can work a magic ring, single crochet, increases, and decreases, and can identify any additional stitches your chosen pattern uses. If you are following a video, pause and check your stitch count as you go.
- Crochet the head and body. Work the pattern’s rounds, counting stitches carefully and placing a marker if you are working continuously. In the AmiguWorld free written pattern, the head/body begins with 6 single crochets in a magic ring, increases to 42 stitches, and then works several even rounds before decreasing. Those counts belong to that pattern; use a different pattern’s instructions if you selected another design.
- Place the eyes as directed. The AmiguWorld pattern places its eyes between rounds 8 and 9, eight stitches apart. Follow the selected pattern’s placement rather than assuming this spacing applies to other Remy designs.
- Stuff and shape the main piece. Add fiberfill as the pattern directs while decreasing. Aim for a firm shape without stretching or distorting the stitches.
- Make and attach the smaller pieces. Crochet the ears, limbs, tail, and chef details specified by your pattern. Pin pieces in position before sewing if that helps you check their placement, then attach them with a yarn needle according to the pattern.
- Finish the face and weave in ends. Add the pattern’s facial details, secure yarn ends, and check that sewn pieces are firmly attached.
Safety and finishing checks
Safety eyes are small components. For a project intended for a child, follow the safety guidance supplied with the eyes and consider embroidered eyes where appropriate. The pattern examples described here do not establish that the finished toy is certified to a toy-safety standard.
