Make: highlighted a superhero costume gadget made from an old Jello box and credited the idea to Scenes from Superland. Its accessible post does not include the materials list or assembly instructions, so the original build cannot be reproduced faithfully from that page alone.
What the original project establishes
In a February 28, 2009 post, Make: presented the Jello-box gadget as a superhero costume accessory, following a post about making a cape. The post identifies the reused Jello box as the defining material and credits Scenes from Superland, but does not describe the gadget’s shape or how it was assembled. Read the Make: post.
What you need to know before building it
The accessible Make: post does not state dimensions, a step sequence, decoration choices, or age suitability. It therefore supports the project concept, not a complete tutorial. For the original directions, consult the instructions credited to Scenes from Superland; without them, any construction directions would be a new adaptation rather than a recovery of the original design.

If you want to make your own costume accessory, you can treat the Jello box as a starting point and decorate it to suit your character. A separate Crayola activity demonstrates decorating a recycled cardboard box with paper, glue, and markers, but it is an accordion-arm robot project—not a source for the Jello-box gadget’s design or required materials. See Crayola’s Accordion Arm Robot Craft.
