To make push pin wall art, mount a print on cork, let the adhesive dry, and add pins to mark places or create a decorative pattern. The key choices are the print and backing size, how you attach them, and whether the finished layers need a protective panel behind the cork.

Choose the print, cork, and finish
A map is a popular design, but the same approach works with other prints. Before gluing, make sure the print fits the cork. You can use a framed cork board for a more finished, sturdy project or cut cork sheets to a custom size. A tutorial recommends cork about 1/2 inch thick, but that is one project’s suggestion—not a universal requirement. [Smiling Notes]

Gather the materials
- A printed map or other image
- Cork board or cork sheets sized to the print
- Spray adhesive or craft glue such as Mod Podge
- A foam brush if using brush-on glue
- Push pins; choose colored pins if you want to distinguish categories
- Optional foam board, frame, trim, paint, or fabric
- Hanging hardware appropriate for the finished piece and wall
DIY tutorials demonstrate both spray adhesive and craft glue, but do not establish that one works better for every paper, ink, cork, or adhesive combination. Follow the adhesive label and apply it sparingly. [Smiling Notes] [The Sorry Girls]
Assemble the wall art
- Check the fit. Lay the print over the cork and confirm their dimensions match. Trim the cork if needed before applying adhesive.
- Apply adhesive. Use a light, even application of your chosen spray adhesive or brush-on craft glue. A foam brush is one option for craft glue.
- Attach and smooth the print. Place the paper carefully on the cork, then smooth from the center outward to push out bubbles and wrinkles.
- Let it dry. Leave the board undisturbed until the adhesive has dried according to its label.
- Check pin depth. Push a pin through the assembled layers and inspect the back. If its point could reach the wall, add a protective layer such as foam board before hanging.
- Add pins. Mark destinations or arrange pins as part of the design. Colored pins can distinguish people, trips, or places visited versus planned.

Make the pin display easy to read
For a travel map, decide what each pin color means before placing them. For example, reserve one color for visited places and another for planned destinations, or assign colors to different travelers. Hang the finished board safely
Tutorials show boards hung with nails, picture-hanging strips, or a French cleat. Choose hardware for the finished piece’s size and weight, as well as the wall and its surface; the tutorials do not provide general load ratings or a universal installation method.
