Turn two empty toilet paper rolls into a pair of superhero wrist cuffs: cut each tube lengthwise so it opens around the wrist, decorate it, and let any paint or glue dry before wearing. For a closer, adjustable fit, add matching holes along the cut edges and lace them with yarn, ribbon, or string.
What you’ll need
- Two empty toilet paper rolls for a basic pair
- Paint, markers, or colored paper
- Scissors
- Glue if you’re attaching paper or other decorations
For laced cuffs, add a hole punch and yarn, ribbon, or string. Felt, fabric, duct tape, and foam stickers are other decoration options. Use craft tubes instead if you don’t have saved toilet paper rolls; buying supplies is not necessary if you can use materials already at home.
Make the basic open cuffs
- Cut each tube lengthwise. Make one slit from one end of the tube to the other so it can open and fit around a wrist.
- Decorate the outside. Color the cardboard with paint or markers, or glue on colored paper. Let paint and glue dry fully before wearing the cuffs.
- Add a superhero design. Draw a star, lightning bolt, bat, or initial, or attach a shape cut from paper or another material.
- Try on the cuffs. Check the fit on the wearer before play. Keep the opening as a simple slit, or lace it for more adjustment.
Choose the fit and finish

Add lacing for an adjustable fit
- With the cuff open, punch a matching row of holes along each side of the lengthwise slit. The Charles County Public Library guide suggests about four holes on each side.
- Thread yarn, ribbon, or string through corresponding holes, lacing the edges like a shoe.
- Tie the ends and check the fit on the wearer. Keep the cuff comfortable and easy to remove.
Make cardboard emblems
For a four-roll variation, use two tubes for the cuffs and flatten the other two. Cut emblem shapes from the flattened cardboard, then glue one to each cuff. Let the glue dry before putting the cuffs on.

Cutting and supervision
Young children may need help cutting the tubes and decorative shapes. An adult should handle cutting when appropriate and any hot glue; choose age-appropriate materials and supervise children while they wear and play with the cuffs. Laughing Kids Learn lists its project for ages 3 and older and calls for strict, active supervision; that is guidance from that tutorial, not a universal safety standard.
