For most current Wacom devices, open Wacom Center, select the gear icon, choose General Settings, scroll down, and select Reset all settings. This removes saved user preferences and restores default settings. It is not necessarily a reset of the tablet’s internal memory, so choose the method that matches the problem.
If only one control is wrong, reset that control first to preserve other customizations. Use a full settings reset for widespread configuration problems, an application-profile reset for problems limited to one app, and a model-specific physical reset only when Wacom documents it for your device.
Choose the least-destructive reset first
| Symptom | First action |
|---|---|
| One pen button or ExpressKey is wrong | Set that control to Default. |
| Shortcuts, pressure settings, or mapping are generally incorrect | Use Reset all settings in Wacom Center. |
| The problem occurs only in Photoshop, Krita, or another app | Remove or rebuild that application’s Wacom profile. |
| Wacom Center will not open or preferences seem corrupted | Use the Tablet Preference File Utility. |
| Bluetooth pairing fails on a supported Intuos Pro | Use the model’s documented physical reset procedure. |
| The tablet is not detected or the driver is unresponsive | Reinstall the compatible Wacom driver. |
Wacom uses “reset” for several different operations: deleting user preferences, restoring one control, removing an application profile, clearing temporary tablet memory, or reinstalling the driver. These operations are not interchangeable.
Before you reset
- Save your work and close drawing applications.
- Record custom shortcuts, pressure curves, display mapping, Touch Ring settings, and application profiles.
- Back up preferences if your Wacom software offers that option and you may want to restore them later. Wacom warns that preference removal and driver reinstallation can erase custom configurations. See its driver guidance.
- Identify the exact model if the tablet is not recognized or has a physical reset button. Wacom says the model number may be available in Wacom Center → Support → Diagnostic Data, or on the device label; the location varies by product. Find your model number.
- Note whether the problem occurs everywhere or only in one application.
- Do not disconnect the tablet unless you are following a driver-reinstallation or model-specific hardware-reset procedure.
Reset all Wacom settings in Wacom Center
This is the best general reset when several settings are behaving incorrectly and the Wacom driver opens normally.

- Open Wacom Center.
- Select the gear icon.
- Open General Settings.
- Scroll to the bottom.
- Select Reset all settings and confirm if prompted.
- Reopen your drawing application and test the tablet.
According to Wacom, this removes user preferences and returns the tablet’s settings to their defaults. Menu names and available controls can vary by model, operating system, driver generation, and product age. See Wacom’s preference-reset instructions.
Afterward, pen movement, clicks, pressure, side buttons, ExpressKeys, Touch controls, and display mapping should use their default behavior. You may need to reconfigure shortcuts and monitor assignment.
This reset does not necessarily repair a damaged pen, worn nib, defective cable, incompatible driver, failed USB port, application setting, or hardware fault.

Reset only one pen button or ExpressKey
If everything else works, do not erase all your customizations. Open Wacom Tablet Properties or the corresponding control panel in Wacom Center, select the pen or tablet component, choose the affected button or key, and assign it the Default function.
The available controls depend on the device. Wacom lists Default as an assignable setting for returning a selected pen or tablet control to its normal assignment. Check the supported control settings. Current Intuos models configure ExpressKeys in Wacom Center; Wacom’s Intuos ExpressKey guide documents that workflow.

Reset settings for one application
If the tablet works normally on the desktop and in other programs but fails in Photoshop, Krita, Clip Studio Paint, or another application, the application-specific profile is a more likely target than the entire tablet configuration.
- Open Wacom Desktop Center or the relevant Wacom settings interface.
- Select the tablet, then open Pen or ExpressKey settings.
- Find the Application panel.
- Select the affected application.
- Click the minus (-) button to remove its profile.
- Launch the application again and test it before rebuilding shortcuts.
You can add the application again with the plus (+) button. Wacom cautions that adding it again may copy the general “All other” settings instead of restoring a predefined Wacom profile. If you need the predefined profile, use the restore option under Predefined Application Settings before adding the application again. View Wacom’s application-profile instructions.

If Wacom Center does not work: clear preferences
Use a preference utility when Wacom Center cannot open, the reset option is missing, or the settings appear corrupted. Utility names and file paths differ between driver generations.
Windows
- Search the Start menu for Tablet Preference File Utility.
- If necessary, browse to the Wacom installation folder, commonly C:\Program Files\Tablet\Wacom.
- Open PrefUtil.
- Choose the option to remove preferences.
- Select Current User to affect only your account, or All User Preferences to affect every Windows account.
macOS
- Open Applications → Wacom Tablet.
- Open Wacom Tablet Utility.
- Choose the preference-removal option.
- Select Current User or All Users.
Wacom recommends trying preference clearing before manually removing and reinstalling the driver on macOS. See the official utility instructions.

Physical reset for supported Intuos Pro models
Some Wacom Intuos Pro models have a pinhole reset button that clears the tablet’s temporary memory. This is not a universal Wacom procedure. Do not insert a nib into an unidentified hole on a One by Wacom, Intuos, Cintiq, or another model.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Confirm that your Intuos Pro model has the documented reset pinhole immediately to the right of the power button.
- Use the reverse end of the Pro Pen 2 nib.
- Insert it straight into the reset hole.
- Press firmly until the button depresses.
- Hold it for 10–15 seconds, until the tablet’s power light turns off.
- Release the button and let the tablet restart.
- Test the connection or pair it again if necessary.
Wacom says this resets temporary memory to its default state and does not affect files saved to the tablet while using paper mode. Follow Wacom’s model-specific Bluetooth reset instructions.
Bluetooth pairing can also require removing the old pairing in Windows or macOS Bluetooth settings and pairing again. That step depends on the operating system and model; it is separate from deleting Wacom preferences.
Reinstall the Wacom driver
Reinstall the driver only after preference resets fail, or when the tablet is not detected, Wacom settings will not open, or the driver reports an error. A reinstall can remove preferences, require administrator access and a restart, and require permissions on macOS.
Windows
- Back up important Wacom preferences.
- Disconnect the tablet.
- Open Control Panel → Programs and Features.
- Uninstall Wacom, Tablet, or Bamboo software entries.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the driver matched to the exact device from Wacom’s official download page.
- Install it and restart if prompted.
- Reconnect the tablet directly to the computer.
- Test the tablet before restoring backed-up preferences.
During testing, avoid USB hubs, keyboard ports, monitor ports, and docking stations. Wacom specifically recommends a direct connection because those connections can cause inconsistent behavior. Read Wacom’s Windows procedure.

macOS
- Back up preferences and disconnect the tablet.
- Open the Wacom Tablet folder in Applications.
- Run the available uninstaller or utility.
- Install the driver compatible with the exact model and macOS release.
- Restart macOS.
- Reconnect after logging in and complete any required permissions setup.
- Test before restoring preferences.
Older devices may require an older driver. Do not install the newest driver blindly; search Wacom support by exact model. Manual removal of support files belongs at the end of troubleshooting and should follow Wacom’s instructions, not a generic deletion list. Read Wacom’s macOS procedure.
On newer macOS releases, check Wacom’s current driver notes for supported devices and required permissions. For example, Wacom’s macOS 26/Tahoe support information lists driver version 6.4.11 or newer for compatible devices and notes that some permissions, including allowing WacomTabletDriver to receive keystrokes, may be required. These requirements are version-sensitive. Check the current macOS 26 information.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Test the tablet after resetting
Test in this order:
- Move the cursor across the full tablet surface.
- Tap to confirm pen clicks register.
- Draw with a pressure-sensitive brush.
- Test both pen side buttons.
- Test ExpressKeys, Touch Ring, or touch controls if present.
- Confirm the tablet is mapped to the intended monitor.
- Check USB or Bluetooth stability.
- Test in at least one drawing application.
If pressure still does not work, check the Wacom pressure settings, the application’s tablet and brush settings, and its application-specific profile. A reset cannot repair a damaged pen, worn nib, or application configured not to respond to pressure.
If the reset did not help
- Try another direct USB port.
- Try another compatible cable if the cable is removable.
- Avoid hubs, docking stations, monitor ports, and keyboard ports.
- Test on another computer where practical.
- Confirm that the installed driver supports the exact model and operating system.
- If the problem returns only after restoring a backup, recreate preferences manually; the old preference file may be corrupt.
- If the same hardware symptoms remain on another connection or computer, contact Wacom Support.
For older Intuos and Cintiq products, current Wacom Center or current drivers may not be supported. Use the exact model number to find the appropriate legacy driver and instructions.
FAQ
Will resetting erase drawings saved on my computer?
No. Resetting Wacom preferences changes tablet settings, not artwork files saved in your drawing applications or on your computer. The supported Intuos Pro temporary-memory reset also does not affect files saved in paper mode, according to Wacom.

Will resetting uninstall the Wacom driver?
No. Resetting preferences is separate from uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. A driver reinstall is a more disruptive troubleshooting step.
Does resetting automatically fix Photoshop pressure settings?
Not necessarily. Photoshop has its own brush and tablet behavior settings, and Wacom may have a Photoshop-specific profile. Check both layers if pressure works elsewhere.
What if my Wacom tablet has no reset button?
Do not use a pinhole procedure from another model. Use Wacom Center, the appropriate preference utility, or the driver procedure for your exact model.
Should I reset or reinstall the driver?
Reset preferences first when the driver opens and the tablet is detected. Reinstall only when preferences are inaccessible or corrupted, the tablet is not detected, or the driver remains unresponsive.
